Serpentine - Doesn't quite pull it off...

While they meet the bill in many of the areas for a standard, fasionable American restaurant for SF, they fall short in the food department. Went there with party of 3 for brunch. "Steak and eggs" entree was actually chicken fried steak, but no where was listed as "fried" on menu. Poor cut of meat to boot. Eggs undercooked on another person's entree. Lots of other small mistakes. Server brought us wrong check, he forgot to include items listed on menu that accompanied entrees, etc. Atmosphere is nice, good bar and wine selection, but they need to crank it up a notch if they want to survive, especially in food dept. I'd suggest you pass for now until they either get a new chef or work out the kinks. If you want to go to see and be seen, and hang at the bar, it does okay.

Good food with an even better staff

Was having an awful night after having a nightmare experience at another food joint we walked out on. We roll into Serpentine late night the hostess is very friendly to us the waitress was fantastic and food was really good. I hear it's the same owner of Slow Club which is a fantastic joint so I was not surprised to see how good Serpentine was, thumbs up.

not a good first impression

Arrived on a Saturday nite and the place was packed and very noisy,had to wait about 20 minutes for are "reserved" table but the hostess(who is also the owner)bought us a glass of wine which was nice.However,the food was just so-so except for the tasty lamb riblets.The 15 dollar baked pasta might have been the nightly employee meal,which means it was pretty bad.The worst part was our server was purely functional and made no attempt to make the meal enjoyable.Seats are very closely spaced and its hard to talk above the loudness.Maybe a weekday meal would be more pleasant.
