good times. not the best area to be walking around in late at night, but once inside the Matador its fun fun! great drinks and good people.
Tenderloin dive with above-average ambience in a former den of ill repute..
In Short
Most recently incarnated as the loved-and-loathed Arrow Bar, the space on a seedy stretch of Sixth Street was revamped in 2007 as an homage to Tauromaquia. The drink menu is short but sufficient: Classics like the Sazerac are countered with two takes on the margarita and a pair of energy-inflected cocktails inspired by the matador's nemesis: the bull. Patrons are wise to party responsibly, as a newly enshrined two-way mirror above the bar lets the proprietors know when carousing becomes careless.
