Editorial Review for Matador – by David MacFadden-Elliott
In Short
Most recently incarnated as the loved-and-loathed Arrow Bar, the space on a seedy stretch of Sixth Street was revamped in 2007 as an homage to Tauromaquia. The drink menu is short but sufficient: Classics like the Sazerac are countered with two takes on the margarita and a pair of energy-inflected cocktails inspired by the matador's nemesis: the bull. Patrons are wise to party responsibly, as a newly enshrined two-way mirror above the bar lets the proprietors know when carousing becomes careless.

Insider Tips
Where to SitThe bar itself is a gorgeous art-deco installment that has outlasted owners and survived barroom brawls unscathed; it has, however, recently been adorned with a pair of bullhorns.
Know Before You GoThe bar is cash only; an ATM is on premises.
