Will definitely come back!. The place looks plain on the outside but once you walk in you'll find yourself in a beautifully decorated upscale restaurant. All the food we tried was delicious and really made me fall in love with Afghani cuisine. Make sure you try their coffee! The service was great, we felt welcome and will definitely come back.

Good food but not cheap anymore. This place should probably be removed from the cheap eats site as it's the same price (or more) as many restaurants serving similar types of food. It's tasty alright but no bargain. Vegetarians might have a few options too but if you're vegan beware that nearly everything comes with yoghurt.

To be honest I think the food is overpriced now and although Afghani food might have some novelty about it you could get very similar Indian food at a much better price if you're on a budget.

Cozy Afghani restaurant serves affordable, traditional dishes on Russian Hill's Van Ness corridor.. In Short
The former North Beach restaurant keeps the same chef, dishes and atmosphere at its larger new home. Paintings and photographs that evoke traditional Afghan life adorn the walls. White tablecloths, blue and red carpets and subtly lit yellow walls allow loyal Helmand Palace diners to enjoy their dinner in an elegant setting. On busy nights, those without reservations dine at the small nine-seat bar up front. The most popular menu items are traditional lamb dishes like lawand or dwopiaza. Dessert includes backlava and pudeen, a housemade cream caramel.

Great Food!. Great food! Everything we are was delicious! The service was wonderful--they didn't rush you out like so many places. Great vegetarian options. Amazing Turkish coffee! I'm going back soon!

Good food, horrible service. I had visited the Helmand at their Broadway location many times, and I had always found their food very good. I had not visited their new location, so we decided to make reservations and check them out. When we showed up on schedule, the woman acting as host/waitress told us to wait 10 min, which I considered reasonable. The 10 minutes turned into 40 minutes. Not even once, the staff came to update us on the status of the table. I had to ask, and they took this as a huge inconvenience: they obviously do not like to be bothered with customers. The new staff does not seem to understand customer service. We eat out all the time, and I have never seen such a complete disregard for customer service before. It was not even the 40 min wait that bothered me, it was the staff's extreme rudeness. I will not return and with all the restaurants in the city, I will strongly discourage people from going there. The food is good, but not that good!
