Bar Drake

Evoking a Speakeasy Feel with Sleek Décor and 1920s-inspired Cocktails

  • Happy Hour
  • Updated Classic Cocktails
  • Dramatic Historical Feel

Bar Drake, located inside the lobby of San Francisco's famous Sir Francis Drake Hotel, transports guests back to the Prohibition-era and completes the experience with 1920s-inspired cocktails.

Evoking the hotel's Prohibition-era history in its sleek décor, a dramatic antiqued-mirrored back bar is the focal point of the Bar Drake. An impressive display of scotch and American whiskies line the back-lit shelves, with selections as old as 80 years on offer.

Master mixologist Jacques Bezuindenhout has created a cocktail list for the Bar Drake that showcases many of the bar's fine whiskies and has also updated some bar menu classics such as the Sazerac, Rob Roy and Manhattan. Signature cocktails include the Bar Drake Manhattan, Tommy Gun and Chamomile Bliss.

With seating for 36 guests, the Bar Drake is a classy Union Square destination in a truly historical setting.

Editorial Review for Bar Drake – by Nina Weiss

In Short
This lobby bar, situated at the top of the stairs and facing the hotel's main entrance, is elegant, yet sleek, with an old-school vibe. The small walnut-wood bar boasts six tall leather stools and a dramatic antique-mirrored back that displays an array of Scotches and American whiskeys. Two lounge areas on either side of the bar seat about 30 on comfortable gray velvet sofas and chairs. A select food menu offers small plates like goat-cheese-and-chive profiteroles, salumi and parmesan leaven bread.

Insider Tips

What to Drink

Try their signature Manhattan, made with Woodford Reserve bourbon, port, Angostura bitters and maple syrup.

Fun Fact

A "secret room" built between floors in 1928 and only accessible by one locked elevator will be used for private parties and as a historical display for hotel guests.

User Reviews for Bar Drake

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

This is my first review, but my fondness of the bar is why I must share. If you love meeting new people this is the best seat in the house. This is a great bar to meet for the start of your night. Make sure to try the breakfast at tiffanies, Jim's mojhitos (no leafs in your teeth) or a beer. But the best thing about the bar are the bartenders: Jim, Arron, Dameon, Diane and Darren ( if they make your drink you are golden). And the old school feel of the bar makes you think it has been their for years. The wrap-up: if you want to make new friends and have an great time try the bar drake.
