My new favorite hotel in San Francisco. San Francisco hotels are notoriously expensive. The Tomo offers a great experience in Japantown, close to Filmore street. Rates are very good! And it's only 15 minutes away from downtown by bus.

This trendy Japantown hotel rocks decor inspired by modern Japanese culture.. In Short
A starkly modernist lobby greets guests with a ceiling mural, massive couch with anemone-like texturing and vending machines filled with electronics and gadgets. Bright and cheery rooms have fun, contemporary decor and feature their own J-pop wall murals by Heisuke Kitazawa. Amenities include LCD flat-screen televisions, iPod docks and bean-bag chairs.

Good value, not fancy. Before moving to SF, I stayed at the Miyako Inn a few times. Nothing fancy here, but a solid value. And Japantown is right outside your door. The Muni also stops one block up the street.
