Terrible experience with Farina Management – I made a reservation for a friends' birthday party at Farina on a Saturday. 10 of us. When I called to confirm two days before Javier, the manager, said my reservation was down for Sunday. He said there was nothing on Saturday available and BLAMED ME for the problem. I couldn't believe it! I told him it was an error on Farina's end, but he said that was not possible and that he couldn't help. I will NEVER do business with this restaurant again.
Editorial Review – Upscale Italian restaurant in the heart of the Mission focuses on Ligurian fare, from focaccia and pesto to filled pastas and roasted meats.
GREAT FOOD- NOT- SO -GREAT SERVICE – Came here on Friday. This place is super cool and modern. They have outdoor/sidewalk seating. We had to wait for a bit, which is pretty standard in SF, on a weekend. Once we were finally seated, our waiter came by and said he''d be right with us. Ten minutes later he was right back with us. That was pretty much the premise to the service the entire night. SLOW SERVICE. So... on to the food. We ordered this prosioutto flatbread thing, and foccacia. Soo good. The foccacia melts in your mouth..I ordered the asparagus ravioli. Literally, the last time I tasted pasta this delicious was actually in Italy. The portions were perfect. This place is as noisy as it looks. Maybe it was so noisy that our waiter forgot about us, because we had to flag him down to get our bill. TWICE. I was too full for dessert, until I passed bi rite on my way home (ha ha). Regardless, food is great here but the service was not. You can't beat homemade pasta made right in front of your eyes. I'll be back (on that waiter's day off.)
Great food and atmosphere, jerky service – My husband and I dined here without a reservation on a week night. Even though the restaurant was packed we were seated at the counter right away. The pasta was fresh and delicious, the pesto was a little over powering. The portions were a great size and very filling. Our problem was with the service. We had almost finished our appetizer by the time our beverages arrived. The Coke that the waitress brought was 1/2 Coke and 1/2 melted ice. Several more times duing the meal the waitress offered to refill our drinks, the glasses were rather small so we accepted. When we got our bill it was quite a bit higher than we expected - about $20.00 more. We were charged for every Coke - these were Cokes that were on tap and delivered each time with melted ice. The last Coke was brought about 5 minutes after we got our check. On the way out of the restaurant, I stopped the person I thought was a manager, a guy with a suit and a shaved head and I complimented him on the food and told him that we were stunned to be charged $20 dollars for soft drinks. His response was a nasty "this is a restaurant". Wow, a restaurant. The majority of fast food restaurants don't charge for soft drink refills. Most fine dining restaurants in the Mission don't charge for refills either.
Fresh, Authentic Italian - Cheese and Cured meet lovers heaven! – I dined here last week with a friend who had recommended it and been there the week prior. The space was much warmer and has a nicer ambiance than it appears on the website - the lighting is much dimmer. We sat at a table however you can also sit at a bar and watch the chef's making pasta. The service was good - we had very nice servers and hosts - not sure why some people who reviewed weren't happy but we didn't experience that at all. The food was delicious - if you've ever been to Italy, than you'll appreciate the menu - it's very fresh. There were 3 of us and we shared 2 appetizers - one was some type of delicious bread topped with procciuto and burrata cheese - A-MA-ZING! The other was slices of salami, cheese, and fava beans. Then we each ordered a dish - two of us ordered pasta, and one ordered a pizza type dish. The dishes are heavy on cheese and/or meets. I would agree that the pasta portions were on the small side however, after the appetizers, bread, etc - none of us left hungry. We finished with a warm molten chocolate cake. By the way, they offer a large selection of wine - all Italian.
If your idea of Italian food are the trattoria's of North Beach, then this may not be for you. But if you can appreciate REAL Italian - this will be a home run. I will definitely go back! Looks like reservations are a must here. Mangia!
Read this before dining at Farina – Farina is a well set-up, beautiful restaurant in the Mission with an inviting atmosphere and we had heard pretty good things about the food. However, when we visited Farina, we were very disappointed in the ?to cool? attitude displayed by the management staff. The way that the management treated their employees in front of the costumers (on two occasions) during our visit was both unprofessional and unacceptable. I would caution anyone reading this to think twice before supporting this type of attitude in our city. The food is average at best, except for the homemade pasta with pesto, and is for the most part, overpriced. Next time we dine out in the Mission, we will be going to Last Supper Club, Delfina, or Luna Park. All have just as good, if not better food, without the attitude.
Not all that... – Beautiful space, but only okay food. Portions seemed small for the price. My advice, fill up on the bread or you will leave hungry (or go to Olive Garden which is a better value - sad but true).
Best Pasta outside of Italy, great service, nice wine list. Good foccacia. – Wow. It takes superb service, food and atmosphere to receive a WOW in San Francisco and this place has it all. The design is exquisite, the food divine and the service exceptional. The foccacia melts in your mouth, the homemade pasta is like that I have had in Italy and the desserts are also lovely. We love that you can order several wines in a carafe which is perfect for dining of 2. They also have a private room upstairs that looked like a great place to hold a private dinner. This place will rise to the top in SF-I would dare to say best Italian food in SF. Reservations are recommended although we were able to get a table for 2 quite easily on Labor Day weekend.
possibly the best handmade pasta ever tried in US – beautiful interior design and delicious authentic Italian food. The pesto handmade pasta is to die for, it melts in your mouth as well as Focaccia di Recco which is truly authentic ( I tried the original one at Manuelina in Recco). One focaccia for two or three people to share as an appetizer is more than enough. All fish is truly fresh. Please keep in mind that they are still waiting for the alchool licence.
You you want to try the real Italian regional food, this is the place. Hopefully they will be able to keep the authenticity !
Great food and decor at Farina – We ate at Farina last night (Sunday, 6-17) and had a great meal. The pasta dishes were hand made and delicious. The decor is very interesting and different - modern with interesting touches of marble, retro chairs, one large communal table, counter seating...lots of ways to enjoy the dining experience.A private dining room on the second floor, sleek elevator to what will be a rooftop dining area soon. The service was very warm and helpful. Desserts were very tasty . The place was buzzing, and this before their liquor license goes into effect this weekend.
