I like Mezzo Mezzo more than most of the Italian restaurants up here. Interesting menu, good wines. Vin Antico on 4th St. is a hipper venue, but the food is unexceptional, meagre, and the service isn't much. Mezzo Mezzo is the opposite. Not hip but great food, a good amount of it and attentive service. I'd recommend their antipasto appetizer and a green salad with potatoes. I'm a vegetarian and generally have a pasta dish. My dinner partners have enjoyed fish and beef dishes. Excellent Primitivo.

Pros: great food, wine list, attentive & friendly wait staff

Cons: none

My wife and I went to Mezzo Mezzo after hearing that they were a sponsor of the 2007 Italian Film Festival. To be honest, I was impressed. We began with a discussion of wine with the owner and an excellent 2002 Nero D'Avola was suggested, after a complimentary taste of several wines. We ordered the Nzalata Sicilia--a combination of greens, potatoes, fennel, and capers--and a simple Nzalata Verdi. I had the grilled sardines and my wife ordered the grilled quail. While the sardines were excellent and I would order them again, the quail were outstanding. Throughout the meal, the owner stopped by to check on us and talk about Sicily. The food was deliciouly different and the service was very attentive and caring. Recommended.

Pros: Well prepared, inventive dishes

Cons: Where are the people? This place should be mobbed.
