Don't Show Up Without A Girl – Bring a woman with you, otherwise you better be ready to "talk green." I kid you not, 1:45 am, and I couldn't get in without a girl, even AFTER my friends, who were girls, came up from inside the club to ask the doorprick to let us in. Ridiculous.
That said, best club I've been to in SF. Great sound system. Good bartenders the times I've been there.
A step in the right direction for San Francisco – One of the only, if not the only one, decent clubs in San Francisco. Finally a place with some nice looking and nicely dressed people slightly resembling what you would find in real cities like Miami or NYC. Definitely a step in the right direction for the club scene wasteland of San Francisco. Not too hard to get in (just grease the doorman's hand if you don't have girls with you). Only bad thing is that they play House Music only on Saturdays, so avoid Fridays unless you think Hip Hop is cool. One thing: it's truly non-sense that for $250 you get half-table but no bottle!!! What are these people thinking?!?I Not even South Beach or NYC clubs do that!
Good music, nice ambience – Went for a friend's birthday not too long ago, and I had a different experience. Maybe it was because we had reserved a table or something, but we were all having so much fun that we opted not to go to our second destination. It is in an alleyway but I kind of liked that. It was hidden and questionable from the outside but we were pleasantly surprised when we entered. The gentlemen at the door were very nice, offering to take our coats and show us to our tables etc.
Dancing ensued later that night, and so did the crowds! If there were any downsides to this place is was this, fighting your way up to the bar, fighting to get the bartenders attention, and then carefully making it back to the table after order your drink, oh yeah, one hour later! But the only reason we had to go to the bar when we had a table was that our cocktail waitress has her hands full and wasn't frequenting our space as often as she had been a the beginning of the night.
But all in all, it was a fun night. And I sort of like the "L.A. thing" (not the rudeness though), maybe it's because I'm originally from there?
Nearly ruined my Birthday – It all started with the rediculously rude and pointlessly pretentious doormen. Adding this bad attitude to being hyper-expensive and in a dingy location made this night on the town one that I am not looking to duplicate. The big payoff of getting past the list-nazi is the small, uneasy crowd amidst the pounding music. Go to Azul up the alley instead. Better music, better atmosphere, better service, more comfortable, and less expensive.
LA Style Pretentiousness in SF – As an SF native, I rarely go out near Union Square because most clubs cater to a tourist crowd. This place seems to have been transplanted directly out of LA and brought all the negatives with. The location is as poor as the doorman's attitude, a dark alley - complete with homeless camp and trash dumpsters. Lots of better places in the city to spend my money...
I had a blast – I went to Vessel for the first time not expecting much from the previous reviews on CitySearch and I was more than pleasantly suprised. Everyone at the door was very helpful and accomodating, the bartendars were quick and attentive, the place was beautiful..... almost as beautiful as the crowd of people sitting on the couches, dancing on the tables and swinging each other around on the dance floor. I laughed the whole night. I didn't want to leave, but there is only so much fun people are allowed to have on a Tuesday night!!!! Thanks Vessel!
I don't get what's going for – The place tries to create a sense of pretentiousness that just doesn't work. The physical location is nice, but the staff has a lot of arrogance for some reason. Whatever.
Go there once if you must check it out, but don't go with high hopes. It's very disappointing and there are much better places around.
Spacious, inviting bar and dance lounge with a sophisticated, underground vibe. – In Short
This unexpected--and unexpectedly urbane--basement lounge is tucked down one of Union Square's quieter alleyways. State-of-the-art light and sound fill the roomy, high-ceilinged space replete with stunning, modern furnishings in faux fur, ultrasuede and wood--including a live juniper tree. Contemporary teak and stainless steel tables have built-in champagne buckets; dancing atop them when the mood strikes is encouraged. An enormous bar, VIP nooks and unisex bathrooms with impressive amenities complete the scene.
Trying to be like NY, and you Won't be! – Ok I got a table and I first came up to the line and was told they were not letting anyone else in at 11 pm. I was like I have a table. I walk in and it is pretty nice place not even packed, pathetic, I guess I didn't meet the height and look requirement. After a while the music really got to me, way too loud. Could not talk with my group bc every where you look there is a speaker. I will not recommend if you are with a group or a date. I will recommend if you are trying to ignore someone. Now the place was not that packed and I would like to thank the genius who planned to put the bar on the side where this no more than 6 to 8 feet by 20 feet to get to the bar. I went another night and I had the worst three liquor drinks that I to switch up to beer and wine. Ok I don't mind you charge 8 to 10 a drink but put some alcohol in those MOFOs. Don't go, don't waste your money. Get beer or Wine at least you know the alcohol content.
Expencive but great very upscale dance.. drink.. and talk kinda place place. – It's a really good place to dance and chat. The music system in great. The sound is loud and clear, while you can still hear people talk without having to get too close. The drinks and tables are more expencive than other places, but worth it. It's really romantic and pretty inside. The set up in luxyrious. upscale, well dressed peeps everywhere.
