What People Are Saying About Mission Pie

In Short – The progressive staff at this unpretentious, family-friendly cafe is helping to foster social and environmental change--one organic pie at a time. Most seasonal pies here are created with ingredients grown at Pie Ranch, a Bay Area educational farm dedicated to teaching urban youth about the natural food cycle. Coffee drinks are brewed with Taylor Maid organic coffee. Pies come whole in several sizes, or by the slice in flavors such as apple, pumpkin and banana cream.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Many of Pie Ranch's young farmers man the cafe's register part-time
- Gourmet:
- Savory South African mystipies come from La Cocina, the women's business incubator down the street.
- Fun Fact:
- The photos on the cafe's walls are of urban youth farmers at Pie Ranch, many of whom come from Mission High School.
- Where to Sit:
- The cafe offers comfortable seating for 20 people maximum, but the long, left-hand booth can seat a large group as well.

Mission Pie mixed berry pie... get in my mouth!!! You are so delicious!! The crust is the epitome of flaky deliciousness and the crumbles covering the top of the pie are the perfect topping to the fresh, sweet, fruity insides. Hands down best pie ever. Never had anything other than the pies, but why stray from a good thing?
- Pros: Seasonal pies
- Cons: Limited pastry selection

I want to make this my neighborhood coffee spot, but I wish they had more food options, especially healthy ones. Pie or pastries a few times a week seems fun, but decadent.
- Pros: Lots of light, nice big tables, tasty pie
- Cons: Wish there were more food options
don't bother

We used to go to mission pies when they first opened. We haven't been in a while because there are so many places in this city to check out. We went last night & won't go back. We were the only people in line & we made the mistake of looking at the selection before we ordered. This was an imposition to the guy behind the counter who rolled his eyes and finally dealt with our order so that he could return to his true job which had nothing to do with feeding people. Apparently he was there to drive people out with REALLY LOUD non-descript run-of-the-mill hip hop and his bad singing/whining. 3.50 for a small piece of pie - they have downsized their portions. There was a strange chemical smell in the place...maybe the assault of music was an attempt to divert attention away from it?
- Pros: mission neighborhood, organic
- Cons: unbearable service, weird chemical smell, not a value
