Warehouses, former dot-com offices, lofts and showrooms populate the sometimes hard-to-navigate-by-foot district. SoMa is a less-densely developed neighborhood than most other city districts but still hosts great dining and nightlife spots. Closer to the Financial District, Yerba Buena Gardens offers a sprawling esplanade and a dramatic Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, built so that visitors can walk behind its cascading waterfalls. Some of the city's most contemporary museums are also in SoMa, like the SF Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of African Diaspora.
