In Short – In season, the wharf is crawling--literally--with fresh Dungeness crab, much to the delight of seafood lovers. Visitors can find a ferry to Alcatraz or Angel Island, indulge in chocolate bliss at Ghiradelli Square, wander the zoo of gift shops in the area or watch the street performers. The area is also host to various kitschy museums--from the Musee Mecanique's collection of coin-operated machines to the wax museum. Views of the bay are top notch, but look out for the sea lions. –
Fun place to take the family

We had 2 days in the wharf area with our family. Lts of free things to see like the Sea lions. Its a bit touristy but aren't most places. We did get a bit of rain while visiting in June 2011. Try the crab stands and se the ships in the national Park.
