The Scene
Hungry 'hood crawlers order at the bar and take seats as they watch their food being prepared behind glass. Smoke-like designs crawl along white walls decked with vibrant skateboard art, while a giant white banquette runs the length of the restaurant--stopping at a semi-secluded back area flanked by curly-cue metal work. High-energy tunes pump throughout.

The Food
Blanched, Belgian-style frittes are the restaurant's namesake: delicate, starch-free fries, with skin attached, served in fountain-style glasses. More than a dozen dipping sauces include a thick grilled-eggplant mayo, a creamy peppercorn and a tangy artichoke. Other dishes are named after artists, including the lively Hokusai: a tuna-caper salad surrounded by avocado then kissed with ginger-hoising dressing. Fluffy, slightly golden crepes steal the show, including the Miro (savory prosciutto, sardine-free tapenade) and light, sweet Lichenstein (strawberries and creme fraiche drizzled with wild berry coulis).

This place is pretty good. being a sucker for french fries, i love Frjtz. Every time I go I order a large fritz and indulge myself. They have a pretty good selection of fancy crepes that I have yet to experience. I would recommend this place for any big french fry person.

I am a french fry freak. Not really that picky really but zum, zum, zum and zum and a half. These heavenly items are served in a sundae cone and there are ceaseless sauce choices. You can get the fries spicy but then you can almost not taste the special sauces. Great belgian beer choices, absurdly cool space ... the staff seem a bit unclear on their own numbering system for delivering the food but they are a new location so I will overlook that, due to the floating on fry heaven freakiness. Yum. Also amazingly top sammys.

The selection of Belgian beers is comparable to any bar in San Francisco (most have Chimay and some have Leffe). The Duval is the only interesting one, but even that can be found at a good liquor store. The crepes are sub par, but the sandwich i happened to get was actually quite delicious and redeeming (the Michelangelo). The coolest thing were these little nooks to hang out in stuffed with pillows. Nothing special...three stars.
