Editorial Review for Hayes and Kebab – by Lorraine Sanders

In Short
After starting off with tender dolma or buttery spanakopita in a dining room featuring maze-colored walls and bench seating spruced up with red cushions and brightly patterned pillows, diners partake in plates of marinated meats from the grill and warm lavash bread wraps. Salads on offer range from traditional couscous and tabbouleh to a very California concoction of spinach, gorgonzola and caramelized walnuts. Those who enjoy gyros and falafel with extra bite will want to request the house spicy sauce. Beer and wine are available.

Because there are so many restaurants in San Francisco, it's easy to hop from one to the next. Hayes and Kebab is a place that values repeat business and the owners and staff recognize customers who come back. Everything I've tried here has been amazing. The meat is extremely good quality so it is good in a wrap or on a salad-specify what you want. All of the deserts are amazing, especially the Bakalva. It is the best I've ever had and I never leave without a piece. The bread is homemade and the hummus and baba ganoush are wonderful. It is a relaxing atmosphere and always homey where some places in Hayes Valley are a bit sterile. This is perfect for lunch or dinner and to share with friends.

Pros: Service, Baklava, Variety of Food

This is one of the most homely restaurant I have visited in a long long time. The staff are very friendly and take great pains to ensure the best of service. The food is excellent - I especially enjoy the Vegetarian wraps which are well stuffed and have an array of vegetables. The prices are pretty decent and meals are quite affordable. This is a great place for a casual, delicious meal!
