Charles Phan's upscale Vietnamese outpost satiates hungry Union Square office workers and toddler-toting mall shoppers..
In Short:
Sister to the popular Ferry Building takeout window with the same name and sprung from San Francisco's inimitable Slanted Door restaurant, this modernized eatery in the Westfield
Centre's food court offers to-go counter service, a sleek sit-down area with plenty of tables, a bar and a retail space with Vietnamese-themed treasures. Menu items include pho, rice, and sandwich-bun specialties. Ingredients are organic and sustainable; prices reflect this.…
What happened to this place???. I used enjoy going here, everything was good - wine, service, food. It is a completely different place now. The last time I went there (and it will definitely be the last), I chose the special of the day - a highly recommended salad. I don't know why this crop was recommended. It was a giant plate of frisee with six small pieces of battered and deep fried fish. Halfway through the meal I found garbage in the salad. Yes I said garbage. There was this long piece of plastic thing in my salad. Everyone was very sorry and offered me another salad. The waitress made it sound like a completely different salad. It was the same except the battered and deep fried things were shrimp. Everyone was very sorry and I was not in the mood to make a big deal out of it. I assumed I was comped the second salad. No! I was charged for BOTH! I can't believe how quickly this place has gone downhill. Apparantly no one in management has noticed this and still believe they are worth a premium price. Service is out the door, menu is out the door, quality of food is out the door, customer service is way out the door. The only things left are a decent wine selection and a high price. They should be embarrassed.…
Should be Shown the Door Out. I went to "Out The Door" in the Westfield Mall foodcourt . First of all, we went during the busy dinner time rush, we told the host that we were a party of 4. After waiting about 15 minutes our buzzer activated and we went to the host's counter, he looked at us and said that he was expecting a party of 2, the result, we were turned back and waited another 10 minutes while we watched a party of 3 and a party of 4 who came after us get seated before us. When our buzzer activated again, we went to the host's table to not find him there, he was on the other side of the restaurant waving his arm as to signal us to come, as we headed his way, another employee stops me and tells me that I have to wait for him to come to me, he's on the other side of the restaurant waving his arm, what are we supposed to do? Miraculously, we are finally seated and we begin our meal. Warning, when the waiter tells you what the "Daily Specials" are, make sure you ask the prices. We ordered their "Special Pork Chops" to find out later that the 2 Chops were $22.50! Not worth it! We found there food to be nothing special, I can name many "Pho" places with better food at much better prices. For dessert, we ordered the Ginger Tapioca with Fresh Mango. They delivered it without the mango! Are they so full of themselves that they think that they can get away with that? When we pointed it out, then the waiter explained that the kitchen must've ran out of mango. It would've been nice if they told us that rather than try to serve it to us thinking that we forgot what the ingredients were in what we ordered. All in all, I think that since they're in a Food Court, they should stick to counter service because their table service certainly lacks a lot. Again, their food is OK, but way overpriced! Watch out for those "Daily Specials", ask for the prices or you'll get a "Special Surprise" on your bill!…
A must place to eat!. The food was ordered and two seconds later it was at our table...hot and fresh! We shared several dishes between the three of us and they were all excellent. I couldn't get over how refreshing and clean the food tasted...you could tell it was made to order. At the end of the meal our server sang her own original version of "Happy Birthday" to me. All the employees had great energy and fun personalities. This place is not to be passed up...honestly, it really is that fantastic. It's now the first place I'll eat when I'm in town.…
Overprized, Mediocre Food, Crowded Shopping Mall Place. The food's not too exciting, so isn't the service, and quality. Overpriced dishes (e.g. take-out soups $8.25 ? $9.25), interesting assortments on Asian/Fusion food; even beer from Germany available (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). I'll give in an average rating, but won't be going back soon, as there are better places in this area, i.e. restaurants as well as take-out places. Due to the location inside the new Westfield Mall, too noisy, too crowded, therefore not recommended for having a tranquil lunch. BTW, I think much the same about the "Slanted Door".…
