The root canal repair didn't work out so well

by Jane Jens at Citysearch

Dr. Cohen has a lovely office, a kindly staff, and he seems to be a lovely man. However, I spent a lot of money ($2500 or so) to try and save a tooth by redoing an old root canal, which Dr. Cohen assured me would be a "permanent fix", and that turned out not to be the

case. The inflammation/infection returned in a month or so and I'm out the money. I would not return to Dr. Cohen, needless to say. I wish he hadn't been so sure that he could fix the tooth -- I would have saved my money and had the thing pulled, which I'll have to do now anyway.

Some Things to Consider

by HJ1 at Citysearch

Impressive resume, beautiful offices, dental receptionist who offers you tea. Unfortunately, some of the basics seem to have been forgotten.

I was right on time for my 2 p.m. appointment, my new patient forms filled out. I waited 45 minutes in the reception area, then another 30 minutes in the chair for the root canal to be done.

The instruction sheet given to me afterwards was a little confusing. On the one hand, I was to expect "mild soreness " for a few days, "especially with chewing." On the other hand, II should "chew on the opposite side of my mouth" until the soreness subsided.

I would like to have seen a warning to patients that there might be some side effects with the prescribed antibiotic. I had intestinal problems the entire time I took it. Since I hadn't heard of it, let alone taken it, it wasn't something that I could put on the patient form that the doctor needed to avoid giving me.

Instructions on brushing and flossing weren't given by the dentist. It would be nice to include them on the sheet since a patient can be a little "out of it" after the root canal.

There was a moment of humor when the receptionist offered me a cup of tea when I re-entered the reception area. I have an image of it going down my chin due to my numbed lip.

Would I go back to Dr. Cohen? I'm not sure. What I'm experiencing in my tooth is not the "mild soreness" mentioned in the information sheet.

Good for the patients who form his "fan club." I hope they continue to be satisfied.

Best Root Canal

by tbkt1 at Citysearch

I was having dental pain on a Friday afternoon and my dentist was closed on Fridays. I called around and finally found Dr. Cohen. I called and they immediately got me in and did and emergency root canal in 30 minutes. I managed to get across town and keep my barber appointment. The girls at the front desk were funny and warm and made the experience all the better. I highly recommend Dr. Cohen.

  • Pros: great service
  • Cons: on teh expensive side

Great experience!

by reneeineastbay at Citysearch

Let's face it - no one wants a root canal. And of course it's not going to be a fun experience. But, having had many root canals throughout my life, Dr. Cohen was by far the best experience I have had. I had to get 2 at once (yeah, what bad luck!). I was a nervous wreck! But Dr. Cohen was very nice abbout it and totally calmed me. I felt no pain. Sure, it was uncomfortable - I mean, they were working in my mouth! But the discomfort I felt was really just from holding my mouth open - as I have TMJ problems. But no pain whatsoever. The numbing has worn off and I don't feel a thing. He gave me a prescription for an anti-inflammatory/pain killer. I took it, but really, I feel as though nothing happened in my mouth today. And I had 2! He may be a little more expensive than others, since he is an endodontist. But it's worth it. I highly recommend Dr. Cohen and his staff (and office) are great as well.

  • Pros: Everything was great!
  • Cons: Expensive

Best Treatment Ever

by carmenuseda at Citysearch

I got a root canal done by Dr. Cohen. I was in so much pain. Dr. Cohen assured me that I will not have any more pain after the procedure. He keep his promise since my root canal I have not experience any pain. The office is so high tech and upgraded. His assistants and office staff were great. They were so generious and even offered me tea. Dr. Cohen and office staff are highly recommend. I would go again.

Dr. Cohen took my fear away from root canal treatment. I would say "Need a root canal call Dr. Cohen"
