great place if you're at Le Meridian hotel. My friends and i did the SF Nike Women's marathon and was at this pub before during and after because it was across from the hotel. Basic sports bar and had some great seating but hostess was NEVER friendly. Our waitress, the shining star to this place suggested a drink to try....we loved it! But 2 weeks later I tried calling to see if anyone could tell me what was in it & was passed off first by a women that could barely speak english (most likely the same unfriendly hostess) then got a curt, rude woman that persistently cut me off with statements or questions before I could finish what I was asking for then finally suggested I go online. Boy she's genius! Too bad i tried that already. She refused or was simply incompetent to help. No excuse for this type of customer service when it's 3pm. In summary, food was good enough (after a marathon I'll eat anything), our waitress was awesome, the bar is fully stocked, comfy seating, but because of that trainwreck of a phone call, I'm never going back

Food was okay, but service is do it yourself. We went to this restaurant on our first day in San Francisco because it was close to the hotel where we were staying. It has a catchy name, and we love the whole English pub experience.

Perhaps we went at a slow time, because in spite of being the only customers for the first part of the lunch rush we had to wait forever for someone to take our order. There was someone busy setting the rest of the empty tables, though, so perhaps they do better with larger crowds.

Anyway, the food was slow to arrive, and we had to go to the bar ourselves to get more water and drinks. The food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired. For that part of San Francisco, though, the prices were reasonable for the food served.

SF's answer to the traditional English drinking establishment, this Financial District pub features an impressive beer menu and plenty of pub grub from across the pond.. This capacious destination--equally appropriate for hard drinking, business meetings and casual dates--covers two full floors of FiDi real estate, making it a prime venue for after-work meet-ups. The mini chain (they also have outposts in Chicago, Vancouver, San Diego and a handful of other spots around the U.S. and Canada) boasts a seriously English-influenced menu: bangers 'n' mash, shephard's pie, fish 'n' chips, and all manner of meat-and-potato combinations. If you're not in the mood for a UK-sized plate of carbs, belly up to the bar for a pint on draft or a signature classic cocktail, or simply share a few entrees (or appetizers in American English) like the popular nachos heaped with toppings or the gooey, decadent spinach dip.

BEST AFTER WORK BAR IN DOWNTOWN SAN FRANCISCO!!!. The EnC is the absolute best after work bar in downtown SF. The beer selection is endless and never boring, the Scotch's are plentiful, and the English pub grub is tasty and modestly priced for downtown. The real appeal is fun, energetic, and hilarious work crowd. I guess its a testament to the fact that The Punchline is right there. Seriously though the place is like 2 huge flours of English fun mate!!! Go there. Oh and by the way, if you should find yourself way too tipsy to make it home, The Elephant and Castle is located within the walls of the Club Quarters Hotel. How convenient. Hi Daniel, you mongrorian.

Great English Pub After Work. I have been working in the financial district for years and have just stumbled upon a English pub right around the corner from me. The Elephant and Castle (Corner of Clay and Battery) is a great place after work to unwind. We found the staff very friendly and upbeat, the fish and chips were great and the old English Pub artifacts made us feel like we were in England. We had a couple of pints upstairs and then one of friends needed to use the restroom and stumbled upon a great downstairs area with a pool tables and the same great pub feel as upstairs. I'm recommending this place to all my friends.

GREAT PLACE TO EAT AND BE!!!. I eat at Elephant & Castle frequently for lunch and really enjoy the menu! They have a great variety of pub food! I always find the service to be great and friendly. It is a great place to be if you need a quick bite or if you want to relax and watch a game with some friends. I highly recommend this place! GREAT LOCATION!

English Pub - NOT. First off, I did not eat here so do not go by rating of food. Met up here for drinks after work.

First off, I hate theme bars and this one tries to be an English pub, but it isn't. The stain glass above the bar even has shamrocks in it which is more of an Irish tradition.

If you're into suits & ties then you might like this place. I personally like something a bit more authentic. Reminds me of a TGIFridays. So if you like chain style restaurants like TGIF's or Beningans, you might like it.

I have heard there are a couple of good bar staff, but the night we were there, the bartender didn't even know how to pour beer.
