Editorial Review for The Boardroom – by Joanna Currier

Sports fans aren't the only locals who dig this well-tended bar's relaxed scene--North Beach folks come here for trivia nights, guest-bartender nights and better-than-average munchies such as savory, gourmet "corn dogs" (made with well-spiced lamp, pork or beef) paired with thick-cut sweet-potato fries. The bar also features four flat-screen TVs, live DJs and a room for private parties.

Woody Zips is one of the best bars I have been to in San Francisco. A great addition to the North Beach neighborhood. Luke and Keith (bartenders) were nice enough to open the bar up an half hour early so I could watch an obscure Division I-AA football game. Luke was nice enough to wear my team colors. We had great drinks and some amazing chicken noodle soup which was nice since it was one of those very rainy, cold, San Francisco nights. Since moving to the Bay Area two years ago, I am constantly searching for a good sports bar. You know the drill with sports bars, some have good TV's, but bad service, or good food, but poor TV's or inability to get your game. Woody Zips is the perfect sports bar in my opinion. Great flat screen HD TV's, friendly knowledgable bartenders, great food and a great location. I can't wait to go back to Woody Zips.

Pros: Great Food, Location, Customer Service, TV's

Cons: None

I was in town vacationing with my parents for four days. Saturday night my parents and I set out to find a sports bar with a college football game day package. We were looking for the Texas A&M vs Oklahoma game. Saying there wasn't a huge amount of interest for that game in the west coast market was an understatement. I called over to Woody Zip's and the guy that answered the phone (Luke) was very accommodating. He promised a screen for the game and our decision was made. We arrived to find a swanky little bar. The plasma TVs were great for watching the game. The bar, artwork and other details created an inviting atmosphere. I ordered a hamburger and was impressed with a delicious meal. Overall, the beer selection, menu and character create a neighborhood speakeasy feel. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and recommend Woody Zip's enthusiastically. Note: There is no out-of-control sign curbside so do take the address with you to nail the location.

A game-oriented North Beach hangout with no attitude and great deals on drinks and appetizers.  See the full editorial review.
