Editorial Review for Slide – by Stephanie Laemoa

In Short
There are two ways to enter this moody, cave-like bar: descending the stairs or through the custom-made, serpentine slide. Once inside the main space, digital video screens flash images of San Francisco and booths of various sizes take up most of the wall. Much of the space is dedicated to the dance floor and a DJ booth cranks 80s and 90s mash-ups for an energetic, mostly urbanite crowd.

Know Before You Go

Weekends can get pretty crowded. To ensure entrance, be sure to put your name on the guest list.

Look Good

The bar does have a dress code and will turn away people attired in sportswear of any sort.

Parking

The closest pay-for-parking lot is the Mason-O'Farrell garage.

This is a great spot and the staff makes sure the room isn't full of a bunch of guys or girls. It can be hard when you have a large group of guys and aren't going for table service but the place is very well appointed and worth checking out.

My girlfriends and I wanted to check out Slide... it's exclusiveness was appealing. Their rules are ridulous. We had 5 girls and were waiting for my brother to come. They wouldn't let him in once we already entered the club. I guess I understand not wanting an overload of men in the club, but they are totally ridiculous. What difference does it make if he came through the door with us or later? On top of it, the place was filthy, it smelled like sweat and sewage. The bartenders were rude and acted like they hated their job. I couldn't even pretend to have a good time in this place.

This signless, underground club is a throwback to the speakeasy-prohibition era, done up with ostentatious flair.  See the full editorial review.
