Editorial Review for Parea Wine Bar and Cafe – by Stephanie Laemoa

In Short
Bright yellow and red walls contrast with the sky-blue ceiling, which is outfitted with floating white tapestries. Neighborhood locals kick back in one of the many comfy bench-like sofas or at candle-lit tables. House music filters throughout, but maintains a conversation-appropriate volume. In addition to an extensive by-the-glass wine list, patrons can choose from a floor-to-ceiling chalkboard menu displaying options like organic soups, salads and seasonal fresh fruits.

Insider Tips

What to Drink

Specializing in mostly European wines, one can choose from a dozen or so reds and whites from Greece, Spain, France and Italy plus a handful of selections from Austria, Germany, Australia and the US. In addition, the bar offers bottled beers like Heineken, Chimay and Amstel Light and taps such as Pilsner Urguell and Sierra Nevada.

Where to Sit

Set on a platform and removed from the main room, the two window seats provide more privacy and are perfect for people watching.

Parking

The nearest parking option is the Zenanli Parking Garage at 20th and Valencia.

So happy to finally have a nice wine bar within walking distance of my Noe Valley home (the bars in our 'hood are grim!) Anyway, Parea was lovely -- nice friendl and knowledgeable service, interesting wine list (with quite a few unique greek offerings you don't find everywhere), and the food (we had apps and shared a special) was simple but nicely done.

My husband and I love to stop here for a quick bite during happy hour. They have $3 selected mezes and 1/2 off selected wines - its a great deal.

Pros: Happy hour
