My friend sent me the link about spa week and after reviewing the raving reviews about two therapists working in synchrony I called up and made appointments for 3 of us to get massages. When we arrived they told us they were only offering the Shirodhara treatment during spa week. The worse part was the management was uncooperative when we were disappointed about the treatment they were going to give us. Maybe it is cultural differences, but I did not find anything relaxing or enjoyable about having oil pored over my hair and a hot stone placed on my stomach. They also would not let us take use the shower. I had dinner plans that evening and the grease would not wash out of my hair.

I have always been the facial and deep-tissue type of spa girl, but I wanted to try something that was more personalized and grounded in overall health/well-being, so I tried the Abhyanga Shirodhara Ayurvedic treatment at Maharishi. It was unlike anything I've ever experienced: 90 minutes of being drenched in oil applied with rhythmic, mirrored motions by two therapists (Andrea and Tei, who were incredibly attentive). The treatment evoked dance, ritual, and even cooking (the oil is sesame, with special ingredients added according to your individual dosha). I felt pampered from the moment I stepped off the street and into the salon. I absolutely think that anyone with a spa habit like mine must try this treatment! I felt calm and centered afterwards, not just physically relaxed, the way I do after a regular massage. Incredible!
Pros: Totally new experience, great for periodic overall detoxification
Cons: None that I can think of!
