Tips for Progent- Microsoft Consulting

Progent made a complicated issue look simple. I would like to thank Progent’s Mr. Taylor, and most of all, Mr. Gupta for their prompt actions which saved my company. Mr. Gupta was more than efficient, on top of being friendly and understanding. Most of all, Mr. Gupta was able to fully comprehend my problems, which were so complex, it confused even me while I was trying to explain it! I cannot thank you enough for connecting me to Mr. Taylor’s quick response, and Mr. Gupta’s knowledge and technical ability to unravel a seriously complex issue – at least it was seriously complex to me; it appeared to be old hand to Mr. Gupta!

My experience with Progent was a costly mistake.. I tried a project with Progent as an experiment. I got zero value from that experiment. My experience with Progent was a costly mistake. In contradiction to their expressed policy, Progent does NOT strive to put their customers' needs first. If their goal was really customer satisfaction then someone there would have recognized that Progent got me started with the wrong Progent consultant and concluded Progent is responsible for the lost effort. A brief interview with the consultants involved will show that at the point when Chris was brought to bear in the problem, he found everything needed to be redone. If Chris had been involved initially, then, presumably, the project would have gone as planned and according to budget. This is Progent’s failure. Progent failed to provide value on this project. Here is a piece of an email to Cheryl Kato who introduced herself as my “concierge.”

Cheryl,

In medieval times, the concierge was an officer of the King who was charged with executing justice, with the help of his bailiffs. As a matter of justice, is there any hope to have Progent absorb some or all of the cost of my initial experiment with your services? Here is my story…Chris, Jared and Aaron can fill in the details. I cut my initial project roughly in half as an experiment to get to know Progent. Before I pulled the plug on that ½ project, my bill was at the extreme of the initial estimate level of effort for the full project. Further, we have only learning to show for the effort. Everything we did must be redone. I’m slogging through this on my own now…and in the process regretting having my idea of using Progent’s services turn out a costly mistake. I would like to look forward to the comfort of having you’re your company ready to solve my problems. Can you execute any justice here? Thanks,

l.

I didn’t hear back. So much for customer needs first. As another reviewer suggests, Progent's only concern is their billing.

Progent Saved My Bacon. Progent was a lifesaver when my system crashed. They set up a remote connection and got me back online in less than an hour. They charged me a few dollars per minute, so it ended up costing less then my regular consultant bills me just to show up. (He was on vacation). I was in a panic, but Chris was cool and efficient, which helped calm me down. It's great to know there's help when you need it.

Excellent Service. I've had a number of great experiences with Progent. I've called Progent's remote support line numerous times and gotten help from Microsoft Exchange experts who solved my email server problems. Besides Exchange issues, they have also helped me with various Microsoft IIS issues, security problems and router configurations. Progent charges by the minute and I've been very satisfied by their response time. Since it would've taken me hours to research the issues and try various solutions (oftentimes without fixing the problem), utilizing Progent's expertise has been invaluable from both a time and money perspective. It's great to have quick access to a technical resource I can count on for focused and reliable answers to my IT problems.

Don't use Progent for IT help. I called for some help to reset a router. It cost $200 dollars. I called and complained and they said, "you knew the rate per minute when you signed up" Call anybody else it will be cheaper.

Only focused on billing. My experience with Progent is that they are not result oriented at all. Their guys will spend several hours and charge you by the minute. At the end of the project you'll have paid several thousand dollars and when things are not setup correctly they will just charge you more to do more work.

The engineers are being paid by the hour and have no loyalty to Progent as they are all contractors and its clear that Progent won't work with a customer to take a reduction without holding the engineers feet to the fire.

The headline tells all. Only focus is on billing, this is not a result oriented company and you are going to pay through the nose for it when you don't have to.

I would recommend OnTimeTech over these guys. They came in, fixed everything and only charged me after things were working, at which point we went to an hourly maintenance schedule.

Charge way too much for nothing...RIP OFF!!!!. They looked at my server, made a few suggestions, then charged me 365.00! Followed the suggestions. Made no difference

Depends on who you get. We called Progent because our mail server had failed and we needed it fixed right away. THey were responsive and we got our mail server fixed by a knowledgeable an friendly consultant. However, we soon discovered that they work mostly with contractors, so it was difficult to get the same person twice and not everyone was of the same quality - So while they are useful for short term projects and immediate issues I'm not sure they are a good match for an ongoing relationship.
