SUPER-FANTASTIC. CARLOS IS FANTASTIC! If you want your hair done right, the first time....go see Carlos at Backstage Salon in Russian Hill.

The salon is clean, organized and has a simple layout. Everyone seems very professional and happy to be working at this salon. The neighborhood is lively and has a very relaxed sort of feel.....parking.....is parking in SF.....you just can't get around it!

I will definatly be returning.

horrifying experience... I left crying. I am writing this review 6 months after having my hair colored at this salon -- to this day, my experience haunts me and I'm moved enough to write it here, in the case that it impacts anyone considering this place for hair service. I was on the hunt for a salon to get a single-process done -- I have dark blonde hair & lighten a few shades -- my roots were due for service. At the desk, there was a sign posted for hair models to get done at a discount (perhaps a red flag, but I questioned if the student was overseen and had some talent enough to handle my request), so I signed up and returned to a blonde stylist absolutely ecstatic to give me "blonder hair". When you think of stereotypical California blondes, she comes to mind. She went on and on and on about how she wished she had my hair color, so that she get be "bleach blonde". I was very clear about the shade I was looking for her to match. She was NOT supervised throughout her mission to lighten my hair. After sitting through the process, then shampoo, my hair was BLEACH BLONDE. She had used BLEACH -- you simply cannot put color back into hair that was (and still is 6 months later). :( She knew I was panicked and called over a serior-to-her stylist running the salon that day and they attempted to add color back in with gloss treatment. I left horrified and paid because she knew she messed up and I felt bad, hoping I might get used to it or something, but I'm still dearly paying the price for mess-up. This was a tragic bummer and little responsibility was taken from her senior. My hair is literally ruined -- 6 months later. This is my all-time worst hair nightmare experience. The rest of the review here are horrible too, so it goes to show you...

worse place to get a haircut. The title says it all. The worse place to get a haircut. Very expensive,very unprofessional. Don't recommended it all. My friend had long blong hair and the owner Zack did a terrible job and was not listening. I wonder if the understand English

Terrible Customer Service and Cut. I went in to Zack and discussed what I was looking for along with a picture. My hair was down to my waist - he said he would cut a couple inches, I said a couple more would be good. He ended up cutting 6 to 8 inches off my hair and didn't give me the cut in the picture. I told him I was very upset and wanted my money back. All he could say was that he's been in business for 25 years and he gave me the best cut. If a customer is unhappy, it probably isn't the best cut. I don't appreciate that he didn't listen to me (his customer) or even do anything to rectify the situation. Now, I don't have my hair and I'm out $70. I would not recommend going to a man who's ego is so big he can't admit to making a mistake.

Zack is the best.... I have been seeing Zack - the owner of the new Back Stage Salon- for haircuts for seven or eight years and have NEVER been diappointed... from my long, below the shoulder hair to the shorter cuts I've been getting over the past few years. He stays up to date on the latest "hair trends" and he is very professional. It is not too difficult to get an appointment - usually within a few days. The only drawback is the parking can sometimes be difficult... something I am willing to put up with because its worth it!
