Favorite Restaurant in San Francisco.
We lived in San Francisco for over 3 years and this became our favorite restaurant. Fish Burgers, muscles, beet salad and goat cheese salad were among our favorites.
The owner is always gracious and welcomed us every time we came in and provided a wonderful atmosphere.
My partner and I ate out on a frequent basis and believed Alex is probably the best waiter in San Francisco. There is also a women who works there, I don't know her name, she has been there for a while, she is also right up there with Alex.
The bad news is that we had to move to Washington DC recently. We miss Gamine but will go back every time we are in the Bay Area
Best croque madame in SF. Hands down the the best croque madame in the city. Burgers and crepes are also very good. You can't go wrong coming here.
juamps, you write such thoughtful and inspiring reviews. thanks so much!
Best local bistro!. This is the best neighborhoodie place! The crepes, the burger, the roasted chicken (the best around)...you can't go wrong, and to top it off the service is great and very friendly! It's also very well priced...
Go here!. I?ve been here before and each time, I have had a very pleasant dining experience. On top of that, did you know this restaurant is teaming up with StreetSmart4kids? It?s actually really cool what they?re doing. I just heard about how SS4K is a nonprofit organization that helps underprivileged teens stay healthy. They are running their ?Dine Out and Donate? campaign here (as well as approx. 70 other restaurants in SF) during October and early November. After having a fabulous dining experience, just fill out the donation form when paying the check (minimum donation $3). This is perfect for people like me, who love to eat out all the time and also like to give back to the community. Check it out for yourself on the StreetSmart4Kids website!
Good Bistro Chow. Fast, inexpensive, tasty and unpretentious. Great service and excellent value. Tasty eggs, burgers, sandwiches and salads.
Best burger. Even if you don't like burgers (but you're a meat eater), you have to try Chez maman's burgers! the whole menu is decent. Great for lunch -- french-menu that won't disappoint for the price.
Best pork chop!! The restaurant is incredibly small though.... I was there with my 2 gfs today and we sat at the one tiny table outside the restaurant...the road was slanted and we were about to topple over everytime we moved too much! Actually it wasn't so bad--and the french waiter guy--wow we were impressed by how only him was working tonight and he took care of every detail. This french guy brings a wonderful french flair, the baguettes and butter reminded me of my days in Nice, and I must say, the food here is outstanding! The veal was abit dry, but the PORK CHOP wowow was magnifique! The flat steak iron is most expensive on the menu and it's only $19.5. Good deal.
Another winner from the prolific french chef of SF!. Wonderful bistro food! It's the mini balthazar in SF. Paper menus with earthy french country food. Tasty and affordable wines make finding something to wash the dinner down a treat. The space small, yet I appreciate that they didn't find it an excuse to squeeze an uncomfortable number of tables into the space. It's spartan, full of life and bustling. Don't go there expecting to linger at the bar. There isnt one. Just a counter into the kitchen that is used for diners too. Waiting for a table on a cold night could actually be a problem! Make reservations, come hungry and prepare to have some fun while you eat the real deal.
Cute French Bistro-Style Restaurant w/ Excellent Service!. I'd been meaning to try this place ever since it opened it's doors on Union Street and found myself very impressed after a mid-week dinner at Chez Maman. The restaurant is small & quaint. (There is a great private back room for small parties of 6-8.) We were able to pick any table we wanted b/c it was empty-granted it was a Tuesday night at 7pm. Our server was great - suggesting her favorites & making some great recommendations. The french onion soup is a must have even if you're not a onion soup lover. The pesto scallops were very tasty. Our server had the kitchen split our chicken burger topped w/ goat cheese without our requesting which was very nice. I will definitely be back! (The frozen yogurt/ice cream store next door just happens to be my favorite.)
Makes you feel at home, French style!.
If you are looking for fancy-schmansy French cuisine, remember this isn't Fleur de Lys. However, it is one of the best restaurants in the city for other reasons! Firstly the food is amazing. Simple and sumptuous, all cooked to perfection. The wine list is not the biggest but the owners have really made some good selections to give you good choices at great prices. The place is small, which adds to the atmosphere, and keeps that cozy home feel. There is room at the bar to wait if necessary, and the roasted garlic or unique fries are good apps to tide you over! What I love most about this place though, is the service. The staff are curteous and attentive, without being over bearing and annoying.
I choose to go back to restaurants because they make me feel welcome and at home, and they back that up with the food. I am happy to say that I usually visit Chez Maman at least once a week, and I don't see that changing anytime soon!
