Good eats. Had a really good time. We loved the stylish ambience and the different areas--sake bar, sushi bar, etc. with just enough noise. Our order came at a good pace. Eating out is about being with friends and spending time together. Really liked the unagi salad, mushroom saute, sushi platter, miso cod and tondatsu and the variety of sake.
Marina sushi house pairs exquisitely fresh fish with a clean, modern interior..
Thin, cylindrical lamps hang from the ceiling, casting a muted glow over tiled stone floors and sleek, flat surfaces in natural wood, moss green and taupe tones. Well-dressed Marina locals and couples on dates relax at high and low tables topped with flickering votive candles or crowd the corner sushi bar, where sociable chefs chat up their customers.
The well-executed Japanese small plates and traditional cooked entrees win raves, but it's the ultra-fresh fish that's the real star. Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth slices of toro (fatty tuna belly) and velvety yellowtail steal the spotlight, and creative rolls, such as the Green Dragon--eel and tuna topped with a sweet, soy-based sauce--come artfully presented and offer nuanced flavors. For non-sushi fans, cod marinated in miso arrives flaky and perfectly cooked while edamame get a kick from a spicy chili garlic sauce. Desserts, including poached sickle pear with ice cream, make for a sweet ending.
a great place.
Yuzu is such a busy place on the weekends. People are just piling into this great restaurant. I have eaten at other sushi places in L.A and my average wait was about 2 hours for a table without a reservation and another wait to order. I guess LA people are willing to wait. So waiting at Yuzu for a table and your order is really worthwhile!!
When one just walks in a restaurant, dont expect to be seated right away; expect to wait especially if they are busy and if you dont want to wait, make a reservation ! If you did make a reservation and still waiting, just enjoy the atmosphere.
Dumfounded by Slow Service. It took 2 1/2 hours to have a simple dinner for two on a Wednesday night. We were ready to order within minutes of being seated, but this didn't help. Worst of all, when the food arrived, it was disappointing - really odd food. The couple sitting next to us was having the same experience too. Yuzu has nothing on other sushi restaurants with good atmosphere - like Sushi Groove or Blowfish. - Go there instead!
Love this place!. So when Tony and Carmela Soprano were waxing poetic about their beloved new sushi restaurant, I just thought of Yuzu. Japanese food is my family's favorite, and we have only had terrific dinners at Yuzu. The fish is delicious (esp. the hamachi, though my husband likes the duck) and I tried some amazing cloudy sake (generous portion), recommended by our waiter. I find the menu really interesting--not another predictable list of sushi. This place is great when you want something more than kappa maki and California rolls. We recently brought an out of town friend here instead of Japantown because of the food and the relaxing atmosphere.
Horrible Experience. I can not recommend Yuzu to anyone. Appetizers came at the end of the meal. Wait staff brought water only after 40 minutes. Service was deplorable. Drink orders never arrived. Food was mediocre at best.
Enjoyable. My friends and I have been to Yuzu several times. Each time was an enjoyable evening with excellent sushi (love the fatty tuna, yellowfin, flying fish roe). We especially enjoyed the unagi tempura salad and the black cod. Selection of beer and saki was varied and interesting. It is an elegant contemporary Japanese restaurant.
User review by shrimpdumpling. All the sashimi we had were high quality and very fresh. For one gulp satisfaction, try the Oyster Shot! Other fabulous items on the extensive and creative menu were the Unagi Tempura Salad, the very tender and tasty Seared Duck Breast, and the not-to-be-missed Wasabi Mashed Potato! Their desserts with a twist and their hip interior complement Yuzu's dining experience.
Yuzu is great!. We have been going to eat there often for the last couple of months and we always have a wonderful time! Sushi & Sashimis are always fresh, fresh & fresh and service is always good. Weekends are busy & our food might not come right away. But we never had to wait for long. Last Saturday there was a couple of big parties celebrating birthdays but still our entrees came promptly and our waitress was still attentive! Despite reading some negative & nasty reviews, we will keep going back & recommending Yuzu to our friends.
One of the best japanese/sushi resturants in SF. I have been fortunate to travel the world, especially Japan, and have grown up in a family resturant business so I can say confidently that Yuzu is one of the best Japanese restaurants in San Francisco much less the world. It reminded me of the chic, modern places I visited recently in Tokyo and the quality was just as good as anything I have tried around the globe. I especially like the Hamachi sushi and the Teriyaki chicken. Unlike the surprising review posted, the service was excellent and the interesting choices on the menu were fantastic, plus the quality was outstanding. It is a great place for a romantic Sat evening or bring the family. My 13 year old daughter loved the food and is wondering when we will return.
