Editorial Review for Hotel Palomar – by Gayot.com
The Scene
This boutique hotel brings a whimsical flair to the 1908 landmark building it inhabits. It offers an original alternative to the traditional Union Square lodgings.
The Details
Guests are welcomed into an eccentrically decorated lobby where the friendly staff hosts a wine and cheese reception each evening. Accommodations showcase contemporary design, with leopard skin-patterned carpeting, animal-print fabrics and furnishings with clean, bold lines. Themed rooms include the Renee Magritte Suite, with a cloud-painted ceiling, and several rooms designed for tall guests with longer-than-average beds. The hotel lacks a swimming pool, but the hot tub is perfect for warming up after a night out in the foggy city.

Excellent service, very clean and fanciful rooms. Top notch service. Happy hour on Fridays from 5-6 pm Wine and Beer. Excellent boutique hotel in the stylish Downtown/SOMA area of San Francisco

I actually liked this hotel a lot, and would even recommend it to anyone who asked. The only reason I didn't give them the highest rating was because of the lack of breakfast service in any meaningful way. The restaurant is closed so they have breakfast hidden down a non-descript hallway on the sixth floor. Basically, it was a weak attempt to make up for the lack of service during the renonvation of the restaurant. Otherwise, the hotel was clean, the staff very helpful and friendly, the location perfect for downtown business. All great! Within a few months I am sure they'll be back to a 5-star place for me.
