Editorial Review for Garcon – by Joanna Currier
The Scene
This highly popular venture from local French restaurateurs Olivier Azancot and Eric Klein joins the smorgasbord of stylish international eateries along Valencia Street. The bistro is a swank enclave in warm woods; crisp, white, paper-topped tables; high, angled mirrors and royal blue touches. Rows of intimate tables for two line the walls; a back, cavern-like room hosts larger groups or private parties. Patrons mingle at the diminutive, curved bar awaiting their seats while servers bustle past, and plenty of French is bantered about the busy space.
The Food
Thank chef Franck Ouvrard for the fine menu of characteristic bistro fare. Appetizers include flavorful soups, refined salads, mussels, charcuterie and decadent bites such as foie gras or terrine of goat cheese. Entrees favor strong traditional flavors--salmon with Bearnaise, tender duck confit with red wine and truffle oil--and the predominantly French and local wine list is built to accommodate. Desserts include a creamy bourbon-vanilla creme brulee.

I went there because I was looking for a place that serves mussels in the mission. This place is small and great for a date because it is not noisy. I sat at the small bar and Christoph the bartender took great care of me. I overheard them saying that they will stop servig food at 9pm because it was slow that night. So call ahead to make sure they are still serving and to make a reservation. I heard it get's really crowded on fri/sat. I went on a sunday night around 8:30pm and it wasn't crowded. I had a bucket of mussels, chocolate mousse dessert (share it... it's fabulous) and a glass of wine. I spent a little bit over 30 dollars inc. tip. I'd say try it!!!
Pros: great mussels and dessert
Cons: sometimes they stop serving food at 9pm

Pros: Desserts!
Cons: Wish they were open later
