Great food, bad service. We ate here last week, heard if was good from a friend. It was about half full when we sat down at the sushi bar, we figured it would be a mellow dinner, as it was Tuesday at 7PM. The sushi chef seemed a bit overwhelmed already, and we ended up ordering from the waitress, even though we wanted sushi and were at the sushi bar, the chef did not seem interested at all in taking orders or answering questions (pretty curt to my one question, so I figured I'd leave him alone). A couple more people came in, then he started yelling at people as they walked in the front door that they couldn't eat, even though there were empty tables. It was soo rude! Ended up they had a reservation, and the waitress sat them. The chef was in a complete tizzy, and we waited over half an hour for our sushi. The chef yelled at the waitresses a couple more times not to seat anyone without a reservation. That is one thing in a back kitchen, but this was over our heads and into the seating area! Everyone was a bit taken back at his public behavior. He got visibly exasperated and angry when he couldn't find things, even threw an empty sauce container accross the prep area! The food was fantastic, and we would have loved to order more, but didn't want to wait all night, and witness rude chef. Too bad, I hope he isn't permanent!

marginal fish quality. I have been there three times and when I got food-borne illnesses I decided never to stop by again.

The sushi chef yelled at me when I asked him where my food was, even though I had waited for over one hour. I tried to speak japanese with him but he is clearly not japanese, and his english is poor so I think he didn't understand what our wishes.

Best Sushi Ever. Amazing, fantastic, fabulous....the food and the decor are great, Eddy and Yukio are fantastic, they really know their fish. It is always very fresh and melts in your mouth. Presentation is impeccable. I agree with the other reviews, service is not always what it should be, try the bar but do not let that stop you from eating there. The staff is always friendly just a lack of attention to details. I love Kiji, one of my favorite restaurant in town!

best sushi hands down! stylish decor.. This place has the best sushi I've found anywhere.Whereas other places serve pre-packaged and frozen stuff, this place makes many of their items in-house such as the home-made sea eel which has a melt in your mouth buttery flavor, and the house cured mackeral which was smooth and flavorful with a tinge of brininess which I haven's seen duplicated elsewhere, and the rolled omelet or tamago which many chefs are judged upon. Their fish quality is always superb and dishes are executed with skill and style. This is a new restaurant. Their service can be disorganized and kitchen items can be over cooked but judging by the quality of their sushi, the hip yet unpretentious decor, and the music bossatronica, this place show great promise!

excellent food, elegant atmosphere. After living in Japan for 3 years and trying most of the sushi eateries in kyoto area, I must say that this place comes most close to the taste I've had in Japan. The sushi rice is seasoned and textured as found in Japan and crafted by true sushi chefs unlike most other hip joints in the city. The decor is crisp and elegant as well as the music-electronica, and quality of food matches very well. The service was attentive and fast the 3 times I've been there. All and all, if you're looking for authentic sushi served in hip neighborly atmosphere, and at reasonable prices, I highly recommend this restaurant.

AVOID THIS PLACE. This place has the worst service I've ever experienced. The waitstaff completely advoided us despite numerous attempts to get their attention. Food was ok but nothing special and the prices are high for the quality and quanity.

All my friends are very pleased and excited that they found this place! I am from Japan and ever since I moved to US, I stop eating sushi because I have came accross with really bad quality. BUT this restaurant change my mind! Sushi in US can be very good! Just try them they are really really good!

Best sushi! and great atmosphere!. A great restaurant on Guerrero! The place is cozy and food is by far the best I've tried. Try the stuffed shitake and home-made gyoza, they are awesome!

the chefs are sociable and the service is attentive. A great place for a date or to hang out with friends!

Excellent Food, Ambiance, and Service. My wife and I love this place. The food is excellent, especially the Sushi Rolls. Hot Sake is a must on a cold day. The Seafood over sprouts is also one of my favorites; oh don't forget to try the Sea Bass also!

The chef, Eddy, is very welcoming and is a master of his art. If you are looking for the best Japanese place in town, you have found it!

New, cozy and elegant restaurant in the mission. I've been waiting for this restaurant to open up for 3 months. They finally opened up and its done in cozy elegance, with beaded red lights and gleaming hardwood floors! They have a nice selection of sake and the owner have carefully chosen for quality rather than quantity. The owner is a top notch chef and it shows in his menu and the quality of food. Their hon-maguro, or blue fin tuna was fresh and fatty. Their toro is awesome. Ambient lighting, excellent food and hip music. What more can you ask for? I hope this place keeps it up. I give it 4 stars!
