Chocolate is an art at this rustic, lofted Fillmore Street cafe colored in Provencal earth tones. Warm indulgences include traditional cocoa with homemade marshmallows and "The Bittersweet," a blend of liquified gourmet chocolate. Other signature beverages feature hints of rose, cinnamon or cayenne pepper. The house specialty--cinnamon hot chocolate cake--is a slice of pure heaven, and more than 120 artisanal bars from around the world line the shelves. Desserts, gift boxes and body products are also available.

Bittersweet Addiction

by kckraft

If you are looking for something choclately, this is the place. My personal favorite is the White Choclate Dream, but I have heard great things about all of the beverages here. Alongside the original beverages, Bittersweet offers a wide variety of choclate bars and pastrys. The Choclate Chipper is my favorite along with the cinnamon hot choclate cake. This place is a must, anytime of the day.

The Spicy! Hot Chocolate is a MUST on a Chilly SF Day/Evening!

by chocolorac

As a chocolate fiend (esp for dark chocolate), I had to try the place once the name of the cafe caught my eye. Bittersweet Chocolate Cafe is a cute establishment nestled on the busy streets of Filmore. It's a perfect place to grab a drink while walking around the area or to take some out-of-towners who are seeking something "different" in SF.

I personally have tried two different drinks -- the Spicy! and The Bittersweet. I loved the Spicy (the peppers are the must-have secret ingredient in the drink), and enjoyed The Bittersweet (but found it to be too dark/rich, even for this 70% cacao lover). My friends had The Classic and found it to their delight.

I plan on returning for times of self indulgence as there are more drinks to try and bars/confections to taste. Tip: If you're looking for a range of chocolates, in both prices and types, then take a look at the different bars for sale. (It's interesting even if you don't decide to buy one.)
