Tabitha has no business behind a bar.. Great vibe at Sugar; decent music, TERRIBLE SERVICE. I have no personal beef with this girl, but damn, on two separate ocassions I waited 20+ minutes for a round. Granted, the place was two deep, but this girl fumbled with pours, popping caps, and keep the bar in order. When faced with orders of 4+ drinks, she balked, then made up ficticious prices. We paid $40 for four Grey Goose martinis, two Pacifico's, three shots of Corazon, and a Lemon Drop. She hurts the business and her co-worker's ability to make big tips. Truth be told, Sugar is almost there, but not quite...
Cozy, mellow sexy space.... Been to Sugar twice... and will go back several more times! It's not the place to rock out with your crazy group of friends for a wild nite out on the town.. it's meant as a pit stop to enjoy a couple cocktails and actually ENGAGE in a conversation. Music was good, but I'm known to be partial towards lounge/house.. although speakers need 2b fixed: too much treble, ouch. Dim lighting made everyone look good, ample stools, few couches, tiiiny nook crammed in the back for you lucky threesome who gets there first.. plenty of free snacks (cheese, crackers, breads, veggies) provided. Bartenders were great, although we didn't attempt to order wine and stuck w/ reg cocktails. Try it!
Pre game. I went with my girlfriend before a long night out on the town. Nice and cozy, perfect 1st date, or quiet evening out. Great mixed drinks, especially the Mojito. Friendly staff, when we went it wasn't very croweded which was a plus.
Sleek lounge offers up unique cocktails and a mellow vibe..
In Short
This seductive Hayes Street hideaway attracts a sophisticated crowd with down tempo DJ beats and an alluring menu of sugar-rimmed cocktails. Cozy yet modern, the rectangular bar area beckons with lilac-hued walls, handblown glass light fixtures and original paintings from Bay Area artists. An intimate back room with a single table offers some privacy. Signature drinks highlight seasonal ingredients chosen to pair with a changing menu of pastries, truffles and other confections.
Total rip off. First of all, the service was snotty, the drinks were overpriced (and not even that tasty waaaay too sweet), those lamps on the wall are ugly and THEN the bartender tried to rip me off. $45 for three drinks? I dont think so. I had to ask for an itemized receipt and then she realizes her mistake. Idiot!
Just don't ask about the wines.... Great Ambiance. Was disapointed in the lack of a wine list, and the lack of wine knowledge from the bartender, who didn't know what sparkling wine was, or how it differs from champagne. She was very nice, despite that. Would recommend a crash course in oenology for the bartender and perhaps a wine list to take the pressure off her.
