The highlight of our SF visit !!!!!. WOW... I thought I made a mistake when after walking in the other night and while seating at the table I read the reviews, but what a HUGE surprise. Here are the facts: - The server was a young man his name was Richard from Scotland, once I got used to his thick accent he was "The Bomb". Quick, knowledgeable, full of humor. - The scene... a fairly slow Wednesday night with a handful of tables, about 7 PM... Then Hell broke loose, people starting pouring out of nowhere, and as the Live Entertainers started on stage the house got packed. Our server did not miss a bit, he simply picked up the pace and did not miss a bit. If it wasn't for the tables filling up all around us, we would have not been able to tell by the rhythm and the continued quality of service we've received. - The food was even more impressive, or maybe our expectations of Pub food were quite low but we were speechless at the presentation, temperature and aroma. Since the place was getting busy more help kept coming from everywhere. Even the manager was out caring plates and cleaning tables. At the end of our superb night I asked the server about the reviews that we read and did not match at all the reality we experienced ourselves. His response was simple " We try to do our best every time at every table, sometimes nothing you do will be good enough" Well for us it was great, we'll be in town for a few more days and we plan on going back. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!

A great unplanned stp!. I took my friend to see SF. Took the cable cars and was planning on walking down to one of the other Pier bars, but was pleasantly stopped by a greeter at the door. We headed in. We were pleased by the Irish pub decor and Brent our bartender was very nice. Plus, he makes a wicked Tequila Sunrise! Will definate be back and recommend it too everyone!!

The HIGHLIGHT of our San Francisco vacation. After 12 hours on the plane, and a whole fiasco getting to the hotel, we finally get a chance to get out and explore the city.

Walked around the Fisherman's Wharf area and ended up at Tiernan's. From the young lady at the door that convinced us to walk in to the server that made it so easy to navigate the rich menu they are offering the experience was a total delight.

We started with their Irish Nachos and it was WOW!!! Next thing we know the stage lights came on and the Live music started. DNA sings...and they can sing. My God, my wife gets on the phone and calls the rest of our group and gets them to come join us.

Long story short, 5 hours later, and a whole lot of GREAT time, all 17 of us stumbled our way to our hotel and vouched to be back really soon. Well we did, for the next 8 days we went back at least one time a day for one meal or more, we must have tried most of the items on their menu and I can say there was not one that did not please our pallet.

The last day of our stay we were in there for Brunch and returned for dinner, only to leave fat drunk and happy... at 2am when the placed closed.

We recommend Tiernan's to anyone that wants a good meal, good service and a great time. We will for sure be back and tell all of our friends about it.

Decent.. Went here during Fleet Week (which was probably a mistake anyway) but the service was SLOW. SO SLOW!

But, the food was pretty decent. For bar food, of course. We had the Buffalo Chicken Tenders -- I love hot wing sauce, so those were delish. And the sweet potato fries which were awesome, too.

Overall, good, fun atmosphere.

Never Again. We should have left when we had to ask 2 different people if we could place an order. Our order of Onion Rings resembled a fast food restaurant, the Clam Chowder was luke warm and the Pint glasses had a smell that made the beer taste bad. Too many other nice places are near to have this type of experience.

Great Bartender. We didn't eat at this place, but sat at the bar for a while. The bartender was awesome and recommended some local places for us to check out. She was so friendly it seemed like our local bar at home. The beer was pricey, but it seems like beer anywhere in SF is pricey. I'm not sure why other people gave this place such a bad review. Maybe not eating there or not having a waitress has something to do with my opinion......

Bad Experience.... The long and short of this story is basically poor service with a flippant attitude from the bar tenders. I even called the owner, Susan Tiernan, who's business card is displayed right next to the bar. No call back.

I'm just shocked people can run a bar/restaurant these days with lousy service. My prediction is this place will be out-of-business before the end of 2009. Walk down the street and grab your beer from Fiddler's Green instead.

Nice Location Bad Service. Arrive at after 9 pm and the kitchen was closed. Beer selection poor.

Attitude poor. Got there just in time to hear the Band play two songs but then they took an 1 hour break. That's when we left.

Don't Go.. I am sure there a better Pubs! It is San Francisco!. I had a very bad experience here! I would not recommend this place to anyone! We stopped in last weekend, not because of any recommendation or urge to eat an Irish Pub dish, because we wanted to quickly get out of the cold. We had parked nearby and came in off the street.

The regular menu on the table. The waitress was sour. I ordered from the menu and was then told I could not order from it, and must order from a special Saint Patrick's Day Menu (still two days away). "Why is this menu still on the table if we can not order from it?" I asked. It had the beer list in the back. Okay, I guess that makes some sense.

The drinks were really short. We were served wine in plastic cups that were about 1/4 full. And, the wine was 6 dollars or so a glass, but you could buy a bottle for $25. I would rather pay more, and a least feel like I was served a regular glass in a glass. I asked the bartender to just send us over the remainder bottle and was told I would have to pay $12 and another $25. (I would never drink that much) The bartender was also very rude, after chatting and passing me up for 5 minutes, I called for his attention, at which he seemed offended. I was very embarrassed. He accused me of trying to cheat him. Wow! We paid for drinks, did not finish them... just left. Never again will I visit your pub.

I am currently a high school teacher of 20 plus years. I just thought you would appreciate the feedback. While in college, I worked in a very nice restaurant in Pasadena. I am well aware of what would be standard practice and how to treat customers.

While looking for your address online I found a place does reviews. It seems I am not the only person with a negative experience. Check out other reviews.

BTW, we went down the street and had a wonderful dinner, great wine and perfect service. The next day our food and service at the Fisherman's Grotto was the best!

A really good time. I think we were there on a Tuesday night and Liem Tiernan (the owner) was performing that night. I have only wonderful things to say about Liem and his pub. He's an amazing musician that made Irish classics and originals relaxing and fun to listen to. Granted, we were there a little late and did not have any of the food but the beer selection was pretty good and even a decent irish whisky selection. I can definitely recommend Tiernan's for good live music, a good time and few drinks.
