Editorial Review for CAV Wine Bar – by Jen Robbins
The Scene
A long, zinc-topped bar slinks along the narrow space while test tube-shaped lights hang above. Vibrant red walls and petite votive candles warm up this otherwise ultra-minimalist boite. A well-dressed crowd fills bar stools and high and low tables. Friendly, wine-savvy staff are happy to chat up customers and give spot-on recommendations from the list of more than 300 bottles, 40 which come by the glass.
The Food
The sophisticated, reasonably priced small-plates menu is highlighted by charcuterie and crudo, and spans New American to Middle Eastern influences. Fine artisanal cheeses, such as manchego and cheddar soaked in cabernet sauvignon, make for wine-friendly bites, but it's easy to assemble a full meal from the fine tapas picks. Standouts include crispy fried anchovies, cider-glazed sugarcane shrimp with celery root ginger remoulade, and silky butternut squash gratin. Poppyseed crepes arrive stuffed with honey-infused marscapone cheese and topped with fresh whipped cream and berries.

i was excited to check this place out since it is basically in my neighborhood but was disappointed by the experience. while i liked the space (despite being small) and the decor, the food was really nothing to write home about. wines were phenomenal, staff wasn't exactly as attentive as i am used to but was very quick when waiting for us to pay...dessert was probably the only item i consumed aside from wine that i felt was worth what i paid...overall not impressed on food but worth a trip for the wine
Pros: wine, dessert
Cons: food, service

not impressed. came here with a couple coworkers after a long long day. expensive prices for small pieces of food that just wasn't worth it i thought. wine, sure. i'm whining, maybe. i just don't understand ... maybe rent isn't cheap
