The Scene
A sushi bar anchors one end of the spare yet elegant dining room, and dark wood tables run over a tiled stone floor. Two large tables are set apart from the main dining area by roped curtains. Any night of the week finds foodies browsing the extensive menu while tattooed hipsters do sake bombs at the sushi bar. The high-energy ambience is fueled by an impressive sake and soju list and the sociable owner and sushi chef.

The Food
Creative rolls and fresh sashimi prove popular, but izakaya-style dishes (Japan's version of pub grub) steal the show. The menu ranges from the expected, like goma ae -- chilled spinach salad dressed with a tangy sesame sauce -- to the more obscure, such as chewy yet flavorful skewered pig's intestines dressed with a rich brown sauce. House-made ramen comes loaded with noodles, meats and veggies.

I would never go back to the restaurant. Some of you who know about the system of keeping a bottle of sake or shochu if you are not able to finish it should not expect the restaurant to keep the remaining. They drink it or serve it to other customers. I have some witnesses. I thing the wait persons know exactly what I am talking about. No more Oyaji.....

We jumped in after taking an evening stroll, and when the line wasn't as long, and we had a good time. Good sushi, funny chef, good ramen, but really busy so the wait staff was a bit behind with little things like water. Regardless, the food was good (I gots to have my soup wid ma fish), the atmosphere was comfortable, and my girlfriend (who is a tuna afficionada) enjoyed it, so we're going back. I'm not sure I would agree that the place was "elegant" as described by the Citysearch reviewer, but did I mention they serve pitchers of beer?

like the previous reviewer, my boyfriend and i had the same awful experience with waiting for a table. we waited half an hour for a table, while there was an open table for 20 of the 30 minutes we were waiting! this table was apparently reserved for a couple who already had seats at the sushi bar and wanted to enjoy the rest of their dinner, the non-sushi, at a table instead of the bar. this all occurred while 4 other parties were also waiting for tables. for the last 10 minutes of our wait, there were 3-4 tables open, yet nobody was seated! in fact, these seats remained empty during the entire duration of our meal, despite the fact that there were still many people waiting. when we were finally seated, we were stuck in the most cramped table possible, and when asked to switch to the empty, more spacious table right behind us, we were not allowed even after waiting for so long. this is the worst and most frustrating service i have dealt with in a long time. that said, the only reason we occasionally go to this restaurant is for the great food. good sushi, ramen, and small dishes like yakitori, but i don't think we'll return until the memory of the bad service has faded away.
