Editorial Review for Crazy Sushi – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
A sushi bar takes up the far end of the room, while Mission bar hoppers and neighborhood locals crowd small tables that fill the rest of the cozy space. Colorful round paper lanterns hang overhead. The menu is dominated by sushi and beautifully presented rolls like the Castro Rainbow, a vibrant creation of crab, avocado, tuna, salmon, ebi and halibut, but teriyaki and doburi dishes are also offered. A list of sake, wine and brews rounds out the offerings.

This is my favorite local sushi place. It is the very best sushi I've had for the price. They could certainly charge MUCH more. It is definitely the best sushi in the neighborhood. The service is friendly too. It is a small restaurant with only a few tables in front, a sushi bar, and a few tables in back. The atmosphere is quiet and the decor is simple. Frequently the owner comes to our table to greet us. I really like the gyoza and the fried crab appetizers. They have some very creative rolls as well. Ok, this is not high-end sushi, but you can't expect that for the prices they charge. The other two affordable sushi places in the immediate area (Yo Yo and We Be) are cheaper but they both serve terrible food. You can get better sushi in the city if you want to pay $$$$. However, this really is the VERY best quality sushi I've had in this price range.
Pros: Best sushi in their price range, friendly service

First off, when chirashi (assorted sashimi slices over sushi rice) is $14.50, I expect it to be fresh fish with a good assortment for that price. It was not. I got 4 types of fish with 3 slices each. That is extremely little. Salmon, tuna, hamachi (i think) and some other white fish. Texture wise, a bit on the tough side except the hamachi. Miso tasted too diluted. Usually I can't finish a chirashi dinner or I'll be way too full afterwards. I was still HUNGRY! Since I got it for delivery, the guy made me order a $20 minimum (even though it says it's a $15 minimum). So I also ordered a rock n roll roll. $8 for 8 pieces is completely not worth it. (try yum yum sushi on irving. 6 pieces, $3) But I thought I'd give it a try. I had to polish the whole thing off with the chirashi to be full. The actual roll was not that great. The eel was old, chewy, and oily. Lastly, when I ordered, they told me it would get here in 30 min, 45 min the latest, but most likely 30 min since they weren't busy at all. I waited an hour! totally not cool. He also didn't give me a total. In my mind $14.50+$8.00=$25 with tip.(Unfortunately I forgot to add the tax, completely my mistake). So I only gave the guy $25 when he got here and he audibly exclaimed "Oh My God!" before I could even apologize and ask him to wait so I could get a few more dollars. So forget that! I don't need rudeness + expensiveness + not top quality food. That all equals to me never ordering from them again. Unless I am dumb enough to forget, which then I would deserve it. If they're prices were a good $3 less for everything, I might consider ordering again. But until then, I'd rather just avoid all of them.
Pros: courteous on the phone
Cons: EXPENSIVE! rude delivery guy. old eel. takes too long.
