The Scene
Red lighting, exposed brick walls, and lofty ceilings make for a sophisticated yet minimalist vibe. A long mahogany bar runs the length of the front room while plush white couches and candlelit tables fill up the rest of the space. A large, vintage-style mirror and computer graphics projected on flowing drapes hang over the bar. A back room dance floor fits up to 100 comfortably while a different DJ spins nightly. Stairs lead to a sectioned-off VIP room and skywalk that lets stylish, moneyed patrons peek at the action below.
The Draw
Friendly bartenders serve up the standard mixed drinks, wine and beer along with some rarities like French beer Kronenbourg 1664 or Saint-James coconut-infused rum. Bar-hoppers with money to burn drop big bucks on bottle service in the private lounge upstairs. Music changes depending on the night and ranges from Latin- or Mediterranean-influenced house to '70s and '80s disco.

The ExtrasThe VIP room's five booths are each surrounded by curtains for privacy. Call in advance to reserve a table or the entire lounge.
ParkingWhile there's no valet or parking lot in the area, there is plenty of street parking on Mission or Van Ness.

I went this past Friday night. I planned on meeting friends for a round of drinks, then bouncing somewhere else. But the music was so good that we ended up staying...they didn't close til 3 am! I'd go again...sexy music, good service, and a fun, down 2 earth crowd...met sum cool folks!
Pros: Good Music, Good People, lots of parking

My friends and I had our birthday party here two Saturdays ago. We rented the VIP Lounge upstairs and had a fabulous time. It is one of the best VIP areas I've seen in a myriad of the clubs I've been to in S.F. A lot of room and comfortable booths to sit...even a bed if you want to lounge with your friends. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodated our needs. the music was perfect (hip hop, reggae and dance hall) and got the party moving. they even have speakers in the VIP Lounge so you can hear what is going on without having to go to the dance floor which was quite crowded on this particular night. The main room with the bar is cool too and the booths lining the wall are comfortable and provide an excellent way to see and be seen. I'll definitely be returning to Duplex for other parties (they have different music different nights of the week), as I love the intimate lounge atmosphere which is more typical of NYC then here in S.F. I suggest you check it out too--I don't think you'll be disappointed!
Pros: good music, cool vibe, excellent VIP booths, lounge
Cons: crowded on certain nights
