Too Busy. 5 of us went to dinner there Wednesday and had a great meal.

My wife and I (wel leave in the neighborhood) went back this evening, set at the bar, and had another fine meal.

Unfortunately, when I asked them about a reservation for tomorrow (friday) night they said they were too busy to talk to me about it and to call in at some unspecified later time.

So much for encouraging repeat business!

locals only.. i guess due to its location, which works great for me as i live down the street, this place tends to draw a a crowd from the hood.

i couldnt be happier. i can always get in and i always have a great meal. certainly a nice night out place to eat and worth every penny. Great service as well

A Superb Dining Experience. My wife and I have been to The Richmond several times, and it never fails to deliver on all counts: 1. terrific food; 2. ambience; 3. service befitting a high-end restaurant; and 4. value for money. If there were anything negative to mention, I would .. but there really isn't. My only other comment is that The Richmond isn't what I'd call a family restaurant, so I'd suggest getting a sitter for the evening. The Richmond is the perfect destination for a romantic dinner or a quality dining experience with friends.

Going Down Hill. Everytime we go it gets worse and worse. Although seating might be quick the service is horrible. It takes forever to get your drinks and the food is slow to come out of the kitchen. I noticed last time we went the kitchen decided to put green oil on every dish that we had. The chef or someone came out to clear our plates and the first thing I noticed was the dirt under his finger nails...ew! There are some good dishes such as the braised ox tail over scallops and braised short ribs, but the short ribs were no longer on the menu. The price for 2-people was way over priced for the type of amature service and none to great food. Hopefully they can turn it around.

Exceptional food, service, a real find. We walk by this restaurant all the time and we finally decided to try it. The food was amazing, creative and delicious. The service was very attentive - they gave us complimentary champagne as they knew it was our anniversary; they offered amuse bouches; the chef came out to visit with diners twice; they were in tune with our timing. We had a hard time choosing from the menu but everything we had was exceptional - oxtail and scallop on creamy polenta, roasted beets and carrot salad, poussin stuffed with chicken sausage, yellowtail on mouthwatering creamy celery root. The flavors popped. The desserts were terrific. Prices were reasonable. Intimate ambiance. Highly recommend it!

A destination restaurant. How is it that I haven't gone to this restaurant before? Is it possible I was prejudiced because of the location? (meaning, how could a great restaurant be located in the Richmond?) Shame on me. My husband and I went there Saturday night. I'm not embarassed to admit it...we are foodies. He had been there before for two different business meetings and raved about how outstanding it was...and insisted we go there for our anniversary. I admit it...I was "wowed." Parking is a challenge if you don't live in the neighborhood. My husband ran in to say we would be a late for our reservation because of parking. John, the owner, directed us to a spot. When we walked in, it reminded me of a couple of intimate neighborhood restaurants we've enjoyed in New York and Rome. Everything was remarkable. The beet salad was incredible...the salmon was excellent. The wine list is one of the best I've seen at any restaurant...in any city. Some of the best "boutique, hard to find" wines, like Paul Hobbs, are on the list. I can't wait to bring my foodie friends here...including the ones from New York. I look forward to my next visit.

NOT one of the greats. Went to dinner on a Saturday night with my boyfriend's family. The service was terrible! I was given attitude when I asked for bread, then ended up waiting over 30 minutes to receive it. They ran out of diet coke and my second diet coke was actually half of a glass, for which I was charged full price. We waited a long time for the check and the waiter never checked in to see how our food was, nor offered us desert. Three of us ordered the steak. It was very chewy and not worth the effort to eat it. The oxtail was good but unoriginal. With all the great restaurants in SF don't partonize this one. The service was terrible and the food definitely doesnt make up for it.

Truely the best meal we have ever had!. I tell you what, despite the fact that I am still in a bit of a food coma from the amazing meal I just had, I just have to write about it while it is still fresh in my mind. First off we started with the beet salad with a delicious goat cheese filled pastry, which really made the dish sing. We followed this with the potato leek soup, which was so full of flavor it was gone before I knew it. Oh and then the entree?s. I had the fresh tuna, which was served with oyster mushrooms, while my girlfriend had some of the best scallops she has ever had. Everything about this place, from the service, to the incredibly affordable wine list (there are some gems on the list which are almost being given away), to the fresh bread they put on the table is really top notch. This was our second visit, and I know we will be back again soon.

A wonderful, quiet place with incredible food and service. I have gone to The Richmond on at least 5 occasions in the past several months. It has always been a delightful evening, and we have always been made welcome. I took some friends there for their birthday and the wait staff was ready with a wonderful dessert at the end of the evening. There is no pretense in this lovely establishment and both the waiters and the owners are cordial, efficient and have a great sense of humor.

I don't think there is anything on the menu that I have yet to try. Great burger, wonderful scallops, incredible shrimp on a bed of clam chowder...one of the best appetizers ever. The heirloom tomato salad is stunning. The chicken wrapped in bacon is heavenly. I love the the salads...the heirloom tomato salad is not to be missed. I also love the potato leek soup. Just the right blend of flavors. The fish and meat dinners are both wonderful. The Richmond is tied with Delfina for having the best chicken in the city. I have a sister-in-law that is a vegan and she always has something fantastic. "Bring me something vegetarian" always seems to result in the best meal at the table. The wines are always good and reasonably priced.

I don't have much to say about dessert as I don't usually have it.

As other reviewers have said, make reservations and plan enough time for parking, if you drive there. It's a gem of a restaurant, worth the with parking issue. I was just there yesterday and look forward to my next visit.
