The Scene
A mirror running above an extended wood banquette reflects three framed photos of Mediterranean scenes hanging on a canary yellow wall. Greek music (traditional to pop) emanates from the seatless bar, while two servers efficiently cover the space that can accommodate approximately 25 diners. A picture window near the door provides people-watching views onto popular Steiner Street.

The Food
Greek staples comprise most of the menu, though there are other Mediterranean favorites like seafood paella. A nice starter for groups is the sampler plate, which includes vegetarian dolma, falafels and a creamy "haydari" spread that is spruced up with a garlic-mint zing. Gourmet flare can be found in the butternut squash pancakes topped with a dollop of goat cheese. Entrees include succulent chicken kabobs and satisfying "beyti" (ground sirloin rolled in thin pita strips served with a side of creamy garlic sauce). The homemade "kunefe" is a delightfully savory dessert (rosewater surrounded shredded phyllo that's filled with mozzarella).

A great addition to the Marina, Newroz presents delicious dishes at a reasonable price. There is a wide variety of choices for any palate, their Ezme (I think that's the spelling) salad was fresh and delicious. Their desserts (especially the rice pudding) are not to be missed! They make a fabulous pomegranate martini, and their wines by the glass are good and priced reasonably. Finish things off with a Turkish coffee! Great!

The food was very disappointing. As a native of southeastern Turkey, I found that the food was not very authentic -- we asked for a side of Turkish red pepper with our kebobs, but instead we were served Italian hot pepper for pizzas. The pide (Turkish pita) was tasteless and quite different from what I'm accustomed to. The combination plate which included four different kebobs, was not appealing with all the meats overcooked.

Went to have lunch. We were the only two in the restaurant, and yet my order was wrong. When my lunch did come, it was cold in the middle. Oh well. The staff were nice, but I"m not sure I'd go back.
