Good but EXPENSIVE. I went to Roy's for lunch recently and ordered what I thought was the "lunch" size (i.e., smaller) portion of scallops -- and even that, at around $18, seemed quite expensive. When the bill came, I found that because I had not specified the smaller portion, I had been served the "large" portion -- about five medium-size, but by no means large, scallops -- at a cost of almost $30!! I paid the bill, but called the restaurant when I got back to my office because I thought I had been overcharged -- that I had been charged the "dinner" price for the "lunch" serving. The manager was quite nice (he did, in fact, offer me a refund, but I didn't feel comfortable accepting it since I had supposedly been served the $30 portion), and he explained that they charge by weight, not by number of scallops. This may be explained somewhere on the menu, but I don't recall seeing it, and neither did the waiter ask me when I ordered whether I wanted the small or large serving. Also, even if they do charge by weight, and even though I realize scallops are expensive, I find it very difficult to believe that that amount of seafood (along with about a half dozen of what looked like green beans and a couple of pieces of white-rice-and-nori-only sushi) is worth almost $30. SO, IN SUMMARY: good food, but be careful to specify serving size, and ask how much food you'll be getting for those fancy prices.
Best Wait Staff. The food was great, good wine but the most exceptional part was the wait staff. We had the sweetest, most attentive waiter ever. We ordered the Boat appetizer, Maui Waui Salad, shrimp entree and cod entree (which was amazing). The waiter felt that the appetizers took too long although we didn't notice and we were not charged for the boat appetizer. That's good service.

Stay Away. I will NEVER eat here again. Service was just slow and the food was terrible. It seemed like the chef's had an arrogant vibe to them, maybe they could act that way if their food tasted good but it lacked flavor, presentation etc. I have eatin at a lot of restaurants in San Francisco and this is the first time I have ever taken the time to write a bad review, so that should tell you something.
My first time at Roy's. I made reservations ahead of time for my girlfriend's birthday. We were greeted and seated right away at a table near the door. The tables in that area were kind of close together but cozy. We started with the calamari appetizer, which was VERY good. The sauce it was served with was very tasty but wasn't enough, we ended up having to ask for more. Our server was attentive and friendly. She ordered the fillet mignon , very good and I had something I can't remember the name of, but still good. Hers was better. I have to agree with the other reviews about the small portions. But because of the appetizer we were full before we completely full. We had enough room for dessert though. I highly recommend the pineapple upside down cake and molten chocolate cake. Seriously good! Our server brought out a special dessert that had "happy birthday anne" written in chocolate on the plate. The main meal did not stand out to me but I would return because of the appetizers and dessert. The meals were kind of expensive but the experience and service were worth it.
sweet anniversary =). my boyfriend and i had made last minute reservations on our anniversary to eat at roys.. they were able to seat us immediately when we arrived and even asked what the occasion was.. It got a little bit loud because of the bar area, but it was beautiful inside.. The food was delicious EXCEPT for my macademia mahi mahi.. It had a strange taste to it that I couldn't even finish my plate even though the portions are so small!! My boyfriend however, loved his entree.. The best part I would have to say was dessert. They came out with the dessert we ordered and even an extra complimentary cake with "happy anniversary" written on the plate with chocolate syrup. The overall service, and food was great [again, except for my mahimahi].. The portions however were too small.. we were still a little hungry leaving.. and the bill came out to over $200 so its extremely pricey... I would probably go back again, but only for a very special occasion like this was.
It was alright. I love the chocolate scouffle and the food I ordered however I didn't like being so close to the next table. I didn't feel like being so intimate to the couple in the next table and hearing their whole conversation. Overall I like Roy's but they should have better seating and table arrangements.
Excellent!. Loved everything! The decor, food, cocktails, service -- all first rate! Don't understand how anyone can give this place a bad review. I want to go here for my b-day!
Roy's is just OK. We took some clients there for dinner last night and weren't thoroughly impressed (5 in our party). We started out with drinks which were fine---No problems there. We also got 2 bottles of wine which were very good. The Seghesio Zin was the better of the two. Then we started with apps which unfortunately were the best part of our eveneing. we shared the shrimp, spare ribs, and crab cakes were phenominal however it went downhill when our salads arrived. two of us got the chicken salad and the other got the mixed greens. neither were very good. they were very earthy tasting and didn't have enough dressing. Then for entrees 3 had the macadamia mahi mahi which was "just ok" according to all. the presentation was better than the actual taste. one person had the filet mignon which was above par--probably the best dinner out of the group and the last person had the ono which was a bit undercooked. I would not come back for dinner, however i would definitely sit at the bar and have a few drinks and appetizers. the total bill came to about $90 per person which was a little high given the quality of the entrees. the service was very good and attentive without being annoying. that's my $0.02
Ambiance, avoid the downstairs room, really noisy. I agree with one of the review. Very mediocre food for high price. Service was bad. Our waitress acted like she was annoyed all the time, totally ignored our table. We had to ask other waitress to fill our glasses and such. I have ordered some blend shrimp on a stick, the sauce could have easily been ketchup mixed with wasabi. My Ahi Tuna (28$) was really blend and small. My friend ordered a filet mignon which wasn't exactly was she was hoping for. She got a more less delicate piece of meat, thinly cut. That wasn't a filet (37$). The food came really slowly. We were there at lunch time and our appetizers arrived 40 minutes after we ordered them. Over an hour for our entree which were totally mediocre. I had dessert to go because it was too late and I had to order it with a different waitress because ours totally forgot that we were existing. I am sure the other waitress were much better. To bad that this one was hired in such a trendy restaurant. Great ambiance,bad noise,very muc. Ask for the upstairs room with your reservation.
