Perfect experience with Lisa and Cary during my SF vacation. I live in Boston and visited Kamalaspa in February during a vacation. I was feeling really stressed out about going - was worried about getting a high quality cut & color and also about feeling welcome/relaxed in the environment. Lisa did my color first and I could not have been more pleased. I had serious gray roots to cover and also wanted highlights. She really listened to my requests and asked questions to make sure we were in synch. She took a great deal of time and care with my highlights. I was thrilled that she took so much time and was so dedicated to the end result. She was also very kind and welcoming and I felt like my experience was genuinely important to her. Both the base color and the highlights were the best I've ever had. I have never had so many compliments, it could not have been a better experience. I then moved on to my cut with Cary and he was also a delight. He made me feel very comfortable and also took a great deal of time and care to make sure he understood what I wanted. I have never experience a cut with such attention to detail. He has a very warm and caring manner and he made me feel very comfortable. He is truly an artist but didn't make me feel like I was just an art project. If I could afford it, I would fly back to SF to see Cary and Lisa every time. I'll have to settle for annual vacation visits. I would strongly recommend them to anyone coming in from out of town who wants a special look to commemorate their trip and also wants to be treated like visiting royalty. Thank you Lisa and Cary.

Kamalaspa Customer Service. The posting from 1/15/08 was brought to our attention today. Our clients are our first priority at Kamalspa and Salon. Our stylists are the most professional and talented staff in San Francisco. All clients are encouraged to call if they have any questions or issues with their service. Messages are monitored and promptly addressed by management on a daily basis and none were received in regards to the complaint posted by zibbyz on 1/15/08. Neither the owners, manager or assistant manager had any conversation or received any communication from zibbyz.

Best Haircut-easy in and out. Great service.. Although this is some place you think only your girlfriend/wife should go to--think again. Its quiet, soothing, covenient--right on Union square-- and for a great haircut with no fuss or overdoing it--see Cary Carter--professional, curteous, attentive, and efficient. Everything you need--nothing you dont want.

Horrific Customer Service. Had color by Lisa - not good at all. I wanted to go blond (I was brown) and now...well, I think tiger stripes/bad barbie doll hair is probably the best description. It took three hours, I let her know I was not happy. She finally said I could have the look I wanted (I had three photos) but it would take 3-4 more highlight sessions. Good lord - I said I wish she would have told me that, as I would have made another decision.

She did one "phase" and blew it dry, my old stylist Edgardo walked by - look at it and asked if she had seen the photos of what I wanted. Enough said!

I am going to call them tomorrow and see if there is another colorist that can do something.

update:

Well I called and called and called --- 8 messages. The manager called me back 3 weeks after my appointment. She was amazingly rude.

another update:

I wrote the owners (Chris & Amber Marie Bently - local socialites) and have received NO response....

No excuse for this kind of customer abuse. Edgardo might give great hair - but I am giving my business to a salon that wants it/deserves it.

Arty D'Angelo gives the best facial ever. If you want a few hours of pure bliss, to be pampered beyond words, to feel lke a queen and to escape the craziness of the city, Kalamaspa is the place to be so indulged. From the minute I got off the elevator, I was transported to another world. The staff, including the receptionists, are friendly, thoughtful and indulgent. I felt like everyone was there just to please me. Heaven on earth! The spa is quiet, other-worldly and almost ethereal. They took care of my every whim, before I could even think of asking. Arty D'Angleo is the BEST facialist ever. I followed him to SF from LA and he is worth the plane ride. He not only gives the most wonderful facials, but just being around him is relaxing and calming. His kind soul and beautiful smile make the facial even more wonderful. The spa, especially Arty, is worth every penny and more.
