Editorial Review for Medjool – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
With hanging glass lamps and vibrant orange-and-gold walls, this vast open-air room brings a touch of Middle Eastern exoticism to the happening Mission strip. The bar area is strewn with clutches of low-slung chairs and couches, which are perfect for happy hour nibbles. In addition to a traditional dining area further back, an upstairs lounge offers even more seating.
The Food
The small-plates menu takes inspiration from all over the Mediterranean. The appetizer sampler has a special emphasis on the Middle Eastern tradition, with textbook renditions of baba ghanoush, tabbouleh and hummus. A distinct Northern African element is apparent in the harissa-crusted hangar steak and the chicken with almond-pomegranate sauce. But the best dishes have a California influence, such as fritto misto made from fennel, chickpeas and zucchini, and an interesting spin on the Moroccan b'stilla, layered with phyllo, goat cheese and grilled vegetables.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasA small area that overlooks the sidewalk is open for breakfast and lunch, serving simple snacks and sandwiches.
What to DrinkThough a full bar serves the usual trendy cocktails, like mojitos and cosmopolitans, the brief list of wines by the glass are a much better match for the Mediterranean fare.
Where to SitOn a sunny day, relax with a cocktail on Medjool's fabulous roof-top terrace.

Whatever you do...no matter how hungry you are- DO NOT order any food! Whatever it is will be cold (unless it's supposed to be, in which case it will be warm), tiny in proportion to what is described, I'm not saying a chic small portion, I'm talking about an ounce of poor grade Ahi cut into a $12 appetizer and dry as sandpaper, poorly seasoned, and poorly presented.

Well I agree with Eryn L. that the view from the Medjool rooftop is amazing, the quality of the food has gone way down, while the prices have been going way up. Medjool use to be one of favorite haunts a few years back, but since then the management catered more to the twenty-somethings trying to keep their food from coming up vs. people who just want a good meal. But hey, don't take my word for it, just breeze through the other reviews and you will see more comments on people watching and the roof top deck, than the pomegranate chicken. If you want a quality Mediterranean meal, my suggestion would be to visit Maykadeh in North Beach. If you want a nice view, pick one ... we have plenty in the city. As for people watching ... summer is coming soon'nough.
Pros: The crowd and the deck
Cons: Price per value of the food
