What People Are Saying About Naan N' Chutney

In Short – This no-frills Lower Haight restaurant with a sister location in SOMA is a reliable spot for order-at-the-counter Indian staples. Chefs keep a frenetic pace in the open kitchen, churning out curries, tandoori dishes, several varieties of naan and more specialties for the crowd. By day, the two-top tables are filled with workers on lunch break, while by night, a low-key neighborhood crowd filters in.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Vegetarians rejoice: A robust section of the menu is dedicated to meatless dishes
B.Y.O.B.:
Bring in your own bottle of wine or six pack of beer (no corkage fee) -- a crisp lager pairs well with the spicy dishes.

Best Indian Food in America

by TBMcnaughty at Citysearch

I lived in the UK for 3 years and had unsurpassed Indian food out there. When I came home, I really struggled to find Indian that could compare to the real deal. Well this place definitely achieves it. Great food and even better prices. The only issue is the inability to enjoy a cold Taj Mahal beer to go with your Tikka Misala but in the grand scheme of things...trivial. I highly recommend this little place.

  • Pros: Good food, great prices
  • Cons: No ambience, no beer

Killer indian at super affordable price

by stormin2005 at Citysearch

Great dishes here! Went with a few friends and enjoyed everything they served. The Tikka Masala and the Korma are fatastic. The Tandoori Chicken was moist and had just the right amount of spice. Even the naan was great (especially the onion naan)! Whats even better THEY'LL BEGIN DELIVERING SOON!!!! While the decor is a little laskluster, you hardpressed to even notice it with all the good food in front of you. And the experience is all the better when you take a look at the bill. Grab some friends and give it a try when you want low-key good grub.

  • Pros: Delicious, Affordable
  • Cons: Decor is lacking

Great deal, wonderful food. Order at the counter, sit down, & they bring it to you. Check out their specials board for excellent rotating curry entrees. I love this place!

Great food, great prices.

by epicurious_sf at Citysearch

This isn't a fancy place at all, but the food couldn't be better. Indian standards are done very well, but the real secret is to order from the daily specials which are sometimes more Pakistani in nature, and come with a side of Dal and naan. The Naan is some of the best I've had, oddly, and even the chutneys at the table seem to be a step above others.

Great food, great value.

  • Pros: Great food, great prices, byob
  • Cons: wish they delivered!
