Great place for exotic wine. There are so many choices and it's hard to not try them all. The place also has a superb romantic atmosphere. Highly recommended as a dating spot!

California Fare in Downtown San Mateo. Astaria has a magnificent selection of wine. My fiance and I were looking for a good restaurant with live music. We found it in downtown San Mateo. The staff is very friendly. The food is fresh and a lot of it is organic. Romantic atmosphere in front and back of restaurant. We highly recommend!

Editorial Review. Located in downtown's Benjamin Franklin Hotel, this Mediterranean-style trattoria features live R&B music and banquet facilities.

GREAT FUN. HA PPY HOUR AND WINE LIST WERE GREAT AS WERE THE APPS. WE'LL BE BACK FOR DINNER, THE WHOLE MENU LOOKS LIKE FUN. THE AMBIENCE WAS WARM BUT STILL CLASSY, AND THE GENTLEMAN MANAGING THE NIGHT WE WERE THERE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE SURE WE WERE HAPPY. LOOKS LIKE A WINNER.

Underwhelming. High marks for ambiance, especially the fellow who sang last night. Service was slow. Appetizers/salads were good, entrees underwhelming. Didn't get to dessert, but the menu choices looked good for that category.

Slooooooow service. We ordered the crab crakes, meze and paella. Everything was fantastic.

Unfortunately, the servers were very slow. It took forever for somebody to come by to take our order. It took even longer for us to get our food. It wasn't just us either - I noticed that everybody else around us was served at a snail's pace as well. Maybe they were down one chef that night? Too bad, because it's the only thing that marred our experience.
