Great sushi, cozy place, good service.
I've been going to the Kamakura in Ocean Ave. for awhile now and haven't seen anyone write a review on them so i'll go first.
One of the best deals that they have is the $ 14 for 3 rolls lunch menu (they also have $ 11-12 for 2 rolls). The list is not very big (for the combo deals). You get to pick 3 out of 12 or so rolls. But they are all decent and delicious. Their full sushi list is very intriguing even though I haven't had a chance to taste all of them.
I've also ordered their appetizers including chix karaage, seaweed salad, and agedashi tofu which were quite generous in portion for the taste and price. Their tempura udon and bento boxes are also better than some other overrated Japanese restaurants in the city. That's for the lunch menu.
For Dinner, they have their full-list sushi menu and their dinner set are beautifully decorated with cantaloupes and several other colorful leaves. The place itself is not very big, but it's cozy and have nice ambience to it. It also has a sushi bar. I often go there with my girlfriend because it's around where she lives and it's just convenient because it's only a 10-15 steps walk from the M-line Ocean Ave. stop.
The service is great and one of the male waiters is always, and I repeat ALWAYS stays on top of his game. Whenever I think of something whether it was extra napkin, more tea, check, whatever it was, he always acted on it before I had the chance to say it. Sometimes I wonder if he's psychic. LOL.
But yeah, I highly recommend this place because it's great sushi, great deals, great service, and great ambience. All you have to work on is bring great company to this place and you're all set.
