Cheap and Great.
Been here twice in last two weeks, and now my favorite Chinese place. I still like Dragon Well and (Protrero) Eliza's, but this place is cheap and great and casual. Balanced and not overly saucy like almost every other Chinese place.
Garlic bok choy, Singapore Noodles, Shanghai Noodles, great potato slices and gamey seaweed all awesome. Looking for whole fish next.
Best greasy food you'll ever love..
I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices the service has gone down a little, specially when the boss is not in.
I've ordered their bitter melon dish on 2 occasions and both time were made differently? Perhaps they did have a change of chef. The last time I was there the shorter waitress doesn't believe in saying anything, not even a thank you when I gave her the money. Other other 2 taller waitress was good, just like the way that Spices 1 & 2 have been known for their good manners in the past. I still loves their dishes, just wish they would tone down on the grease and oil. They serve curcumin dishs! Those of you into healthy dishes, you must have some curcumin dishs. There are many studies and research about the health benefits of curcumin and its polyphenolic compounds for treatment of Alzheimer, inflammation, systic fibrosis, colorectal cancer. You must look it up on the web.
what happened??. I used to love this place and thought the food was DELISH, but something's happened. The last couple of times I've gone, the food just wasn't as good as before. I can say it's barely average. The service has been lacking too. They forgot our orders!!
Fun menu, great food. Not your standard chinese food. Interesting menu, and yes the food lives up to the name of the restaurant. VERY spicy! Watch out for the "Stinky Tofu" dish -- they aren't kidding! You can definately get yourself into trouble if you are adventurous. That's OK because the prices are very reasonable.
depends on your order. I've come here many times, but the last couple of times, the service and food just wasn't as good as I remembered. The food was so-so and worst of all is that the waitress forgot our order. When I reminded her, she was unapologetic. But based on my previous positive experiences, I won't rule this place out just yet.
Excellent food, and spicy, great value!!!. If you like spicey chinese food, then this is your place. The food there is excellent, very flavorful, and an average value for chinese food (about $9-10 a dish). The ambiance is nice, very modern looking and colorful with tv's playing chinese music. Overall I highly recommend the place.
Can't eat spicy but love Spices!.
All my friends wanted to go there but I usually don't like spicy food and when I saw the name of the place I unwillingly followed the group...
Surprisingly I really enjoyed it! I tried to order stuff that was not too spicy, but even when it was a little too much for me it still was very tasty!I can't have this type of food everyday but I will definitely go back sometimes!
The waitstaff was nice even when I probably was very annoying asking about the degree of spicyness!
And the ambience was great, quite unexpected in an inexpensive chinese restaurant!
Ridiculously colorful and enthusiastic Richmond District Szechuan restaurant caters to those who like it hot..
Bright yellow and lime green walls, karaoke videos and vibrantly-hued artwork provide plenty of eye candy for the brave diners who power through the extra-spicy dishes here--and then come back for more. The offal-heavy menu is filled with fiery descriptions--"numbing," "flaming" and "explosive" are actually used as appetizing adjectives--that aren't just for show; don't end up sweating embarassingly in front of your date, and just skip this place if you can't handle some heat. For those who can, the bold flavors and interesting ingredients are popular among neighboring families and big-time local chefs as well.
if u like spicy food, Spices is for you!.
This is the second time I went to Spices 2, and havent been dissappointed. The cumin lamb is to die for. But if you cannot tolerate EXTREMELY SPICY food, then dont even try to go here!
Chicken with Hot Red Pepper Sauce was truly amazing. Eggplant dish was pretty good too. Ambience makes me think that this is the asian version of a trendy after-work place. Service is definitely a lot better than most chinese places.
Spices combines various spicy cuisines such as sichuan, taiwanese, etc so that you can get the best of spicy flavors. I would definitely go there again and again and again...

The "cumin lamb" was, by far, the BEST item we ordered... simply fantastic! The cold noodles, 'Spices special chowmein', and 'chicken in red oil' were also very good.
They're serious about their spice level, so order with care.
