Editorial Review for The Independent – by Daniel Liszt
In Short
This space has been a neighborhood staple for more than 30 years (most recently known as the Justice League). In early 2004, it reopened as the Independent: a completely renovated, 500-person-capacity club. The 21-and-over crowd varies depending on the evening's performers, which can range from hip-hop superstars to indie-rock hotshots.

I've been here several times to see concerts and I was very impressed with the sound system there....but alittle small when it gets packed....

The Independent has amazing sight lines from all areas of the venue and the most amazing sound system in the Bay Area. You will be hard pressed to find a club that is going to have this level of talent, but in the size of an intimate setting. Friendly staff and good times abound at this joint on Divis.
