The Scene
The stainless-steel food and cashier stations are a little bit industrial, the hardwood picnic tables a little bit retro, but the melding of the two is appropriate for a place that blends both old and new school. Bubbly counter staff, who are constantly grinning from ear to ear, echo the aesthetics of the cheery space.
The Food
The menu revolves around familiar American diner food, and a meticulous attention to ingredients befits the high prices. Hamburgers are ground from all-natural beef, there are nuggets of fresh mahi mahi in the fish and chips, and cobb salad is coated lightly with a dill-inflected green goddess dressing. Just like a roadside diner should, the kitchen has a way with a deep-fryer: Observe the chunky onion rings and spectacular sweet potato fries flecked with chili powder. Spicy fish tacos, delicious but a bit underwhelming, may not be quite up to all the hullabaloo, but a thick white-pistachio milk shake made with double Rainbow ice cream is downright luscious.

Other than the fact that this place is ALWAYS packed and slightly slow to deliver because of the traffic, I can’t say a bad word about Taylors. I was a huge fan of their original stand in St. Helena, and now I’m a huge fan of their stand at the Ferry Building. There’s no question in my mind that the ahi tuna burger is by far one of the best sandwhiches I’ve ever eaten… I used to have to drive 2 hours to St. Helena to get it, but now I save on gas $. If you don’t have an important meeting to go to, you’ve gotta get the garlic fries—an SF favorite. Shakes are great, and for lighter fare try the grilled cheese, chopped wedge salad (I like the blue cheese dressing) or share the fish tacos. You really can’t go wrong at Taylors!
Pros: FOOD IS GOOD! FOOD IS GOOD!
Cons: Can be a long line/take a while to get food

By simply hanging around on a busy afternoon, I realized that the same person who cleaned the tables with a rag used his bare hands, shortly after without washing them, to move hamburger buns around the grill which toasts them. That said, it is clear management lack procedures in place to control tasks which should be seperated. I am unsure how often this disgusting event happens, but be sure to wash your bun before eating. One would come to expect high standards from such a place that charges premium prices. Eat with caution.
Pros: Sometimes tasty
Cons: DIRTY, rediculous prices, poor/slow service
