This place is horrible.
Ever since Star of India burned down I have been looking for a decent Indian place that delivered to Cow Hollow and found the options kind of limited.
I have tried India Aroma a few times and found the food to be average. Not great, but passable if you are hungry and stick to the basics (i.e. chicken vindaloo). The horrible customer service makes it really not worth the effort though. I am seriously not one to complain about customer service and almost never post reviews, but I thought that I should warn anyone that is hungry and considering trying to dial in an order here. Take your business elsewhere.
I have had bad experiences with these guys all three times that I have tried to order from them. Just off the top of my as far as customer service: the phone line is almost always busy, when you finally get a hold of them, they often times either hang up on you (happened to me 3 times today) or else they just leave you on hold for 5-10 mins where you can listen to the restaurant in the background until you hang up and start the cycle again. When I finally got a hold of someone, she asked me to call back in 2 mins, because they were issues with the fax machine (?). 30 mins later, I finally got a live person again and the same woman explained to me matter-of-fact that it wasn't her problem, these things happen in the restaurant business.
If it were just this one time, I would let it pass, but I am now hungry and cranky and this is the third time. The other two times were at my girlfriends house it took an hour and 25 mins to get our food (of course we couldn't get through for an update on what was happening because the line was busy) and the second time I had similar issues to tonight, but wasn't quite as hungry so I was able to tough out the 90 min plus ordeal.
My advice if you are considering this place and are hungry now, think again. Get off your butt and hoof it down to Shalimar for some pickup. This place is really not worth the effort.…
A Host Of Flavors. I have lived by Polk Street for over two years now. I have walked by this restaurant on several occasions and when I saw their menu displayed on the sidewalk my attention turned the other way. I had thought I written this spot off. Well it seems to be my bias?s have bit me in the you know what. I was terribly wrong, and should have walked straight into the restaurant instead. My go to Indian restaurant recently had a fire in their kitchen so I was off again to find the ever difficult good Indian take out restaurant. And what did I find but the restaurant I had written off. Indian Aroma is not only a great Indian restaurant, the delivery service was prompt, friendly and the food arrived still warm. I highly recommend giving this spot a chance, I am sure you will not be disappointed…
Best Indian on Polk (sorry Shalimar...) and probably in San Francisco.
So we lived around the block from this tasty Indian food palace for almost a year before we ever tried it because a close Indian friend told us that "no respectable Indian would ever eat at an Indian
restaurant with "India" in the name." So, ya know, we wanna go where people who know the food would go, and we avoided it for a long time. . .until one night when an Indian taxi driver told us that his friend (at Indian Aroma) made the best Indian food in the city, and we decided to give it a try. Since then, we have been upwards of 15 times and have never had a bad experience. Service is great, prices are very reasonable and the food is wonderful. Our particular favorites include the lamb and chicken curries, which are always excellent; the chicken tikka masala (a spicy, delicious treat without that greasy look and taste that it has at so many other restaurants around here); all of the spinach dishes; and of course, the other North Indian veggie favorite, the chana masala. In summary -- Shalimar? please. Naan-N-Curry? Please. Aslam's rasoi? Double please. Rotii? OK, Rotii is pretty good, but you get what I'm trying to say here. Do yourself a favor and try Indian Aroma. You will not be sorry.
Question: Where are all the people???
Answer: At Shalimar, missing out on better food, better service, and better prices just a block or two north on Polk!…
very good, unassuming, indian restaurant. Everything I've had here has been very good. I looked at the menu one night and one of the employees walked outside and struck up a conversation w/ me. i was fairly skeptical - i find most indian restaurants are fairly similar (w/ a few very notable exceptions) with the heaviness and grease kind of overwhelming flavor. Everything I"ve had here (madras curry, lamb that's not overcooked, fish, vege biryiani, somosas, tandori) has been better than most of this "typical" indian restaurant i allude to. i don't understand why nobody is ever there b/c the food is very good.…
Buried Treasure!.
This place is awesome! They have the best service and the best food. Forget the Fantasy Room, this place is way better. Not only is the food better, but it's cheaper and have better beer options.
The past five times I've gone there, my girlfriend and I were the only ones there. Where are the people?
Always order the special. One time we had the special and it was so good, we keep coming back for it, but it was never offered. I asked them to make it the next time, and they did! Just for me! The Garlic Naan is the best!
Go to India Aroma. You're dumb if you don't.…
