Editorial Review for Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant – by Jane Tunks
In Short
This sleek watering hole sits in a prime location in the Ferry Building. More than half of the vast space is devoted to shelves and boxes stocked with bottles. Golden walls warm the industrial feel evoked by poured-concrete floors and exposed ducts. The wine bar is tucked behind a waist-high railing, encircled by high-backed wooden stools. A dozen tall tables also offer a respite for weary shoppers.

I've been here numerous times, love the location and atmosphere, but on almost every occasion I've had terrible service. Some servers have a slight attitude, but the main reason behind it seems to be poor management. No matter what size crowd they have, they are consistently understaffed by 1-2 servers. It's such a simple fix I'm surprised they haven't corrected the problem already. Also, it would be quite helpful if the wine menu actually had an actual description of the wine's flavor in addition to the 600 year history of the vineyard and its owners.
Pros: Atmosphere
Cons: Poor Service, Understaffed

I'm here at least once a week for a quick drink after work. Friendly staff, although I do agree with the earlier review about some staff being more attentive than others), good 'by the glass' selections which they update regularly. I've made it to a few of their wednesday wine tastings which are always interesting.
