The Scene
With pale pink walls, frosted-glass pendant lamps and pastel cake pedestals, this small shop conjures up a little girl's archetype of the perfect bakery. The charming staffers who man the counter are unfailingly patient with indecisive sugar fanatics wavering on what sweet to order.
The Food
It's hard to choose from the fanciful confections behind the glass-covered case, all of which are available whole or by the slice. The mostly French-inspired goods drip with sweet authenticity, such as velvety lemon tart, barely crunchy macaroons and petit fours crowned with tiny marzipan flowers. Traditional American favorites, such as dense carrot cake and moist gingerbread cupcakes, are blanketed in a silky cream cheese frosting. Inventive cookies, like lavender shortbread, pair perfectly with an afternoon cup of tea. For breakfast, stop by for morning buns and flaky croissants.

While the cupcakes were o.k., I exect a lot better for $3 each. The pote de creme was not good and I possibly had the worst tasting eclaire ever. The young redhead who helped me was very nice...but that was about the only thing this place had going for it.

Consistent with other vendors in the Ferry Building, Miette features beautiful products, made from the best ingredients, that are ridiculously overpriced. I frequently visit the cute display cases, and I have purchased several of their pretty desserts. The cakes are rich in taste and colors, and everything is cute and delicate - terrific for impressing guests, aunties, and birthday girls (things are very pink here). Three things that disappointed me about Miette: (1) Everything is pre-made Elsewhere, refrigerated, and shipped to Here (make sure you bring cakes to room temperature before serving) (2) While frosting and decorations are perfect, the actual cakes are unimaginative and standard (euphemism for "not delicious") (3) The staff comes off as pretentious and patronizing (example: One server distractedly refused to add a macroon to a customer's $35 credit card purchase because the credit card approval process was already underway. Worse still, the server was impatient about the customer's broken English - a visitor on vacation from Malaysia - and rudely insisted that the cookie was paid for in cash ). Conclusion: looks great, tastes "eh"

I am appalled by what some others have written about this lovely spot. Obviously, they have not had the pleasure to see and to taste what Miette has to offer. Every single confection I have ever had the gastronomical pleasure of tasting at this sumptuous (in every sense of the word) shop has been enough to make my knees buckle in delight and make me squeal like a five year old. The macarons surpass the "real" french ones I have had...they have this little thing in a jar called "po de creme" that will virtually change your little world. All this and the fact that they barely capitolize on the fact that all the ingredients are local and organic...I love you Miette!!
