Great food at a great price. I have been going to watercress since it opened and it just keeps getting better. The food is wonderful and the service is amazing. Granted sometime things take a bit longer but it is a French restaurant. Its one of the best deals in the city and the food is consistently good. Try the sole. They have specials on the holidays also. The NYE menu was delicious and affordable.
Watercress Dinner. Excellent friendly service. We went Friday night around 7:30. It was not busy, but we had reservations in case. I had the Salmon (kind of oily but very tastly), my boyfriend Jheffe had the pork chops that I tried, also very good. For dessert we had creme brulee, and cheesecake also consistantly tasty. Very good red wine (I forget which). I could see how this would be a good place to have a group, there is room for a bigger party. Service is very important to me and in this case both the food and the sevice were excellent.
nice taste and good service.

such a tease!. after all the rave reviews, we were so looking forward to this place! lamb was cold, anything decent on the menu was an additional $7 per course, risotto was blande, wine list was lacking any substance and WAY overpriced for the 'drinker' type selection ... the only decent thing was dessert. service was ok early on, but got ridiculously slow later ... looked like only 2 guys were working the whole place. whole experience was disappointing.
Buzzing Mission boite dishes French-Asian fare at digestible prices..
The Scene
A diverse crowd representative of the neighborhood fills caramel-colored banquettes and tables running down the center of the room. Paintings depicting food and wine hang on pastel yellow and sky blue walls. Lounge-worthy hip-hop beats murmur beneath boisterous conversation as waiters bustle between the exhibition kitchen and dining room.
The Draw
Dishes keep with the France-meets-the-Far-East theme. The signature salad is a nice way to start, balanced by chunky roasted beets, pear slivers and a walnut wine vinaigrette. Even more hefty are two dozen roasted PEI mussels, which come bathed in a ginger broth brimming with garlic tomatoes, mushrooms, and black olives. A heaping helping of creamy oyster-mushroom risotto is a healthy and hearty entree -- mixed with yellow corn, tomatoes an perfectly crispy asparagus. In addition to braised lamb shank, fish is also a specialty, such as the almond-crusted sole sautéed and presented with baby bok choy.
great food. Watercress is a great restaurant with a low key atmosphere. The food is incredible. I went here for a group party and I would recommend this place to anyone.
Horrible Food. We were looking for a different place to eat and decided to try Watercress based on the reviews. It was probably the worst meal I had in years. The crab cake appetizer was dry, looked like it was under a heat lamp for hours, and hardly had any crab. The steak and pork loin were doused with a sauce that could not have complemented the meats any worse. The Napoleon and Cream Brule tasted like they came off an airline meal cart. The service and atmosphere was very good and staff quite friendly. This was a very disappointing experience with regards to the food and I will never go there again.
This place used to be a value..... Dropped in for a late night dinner on a weekday night. Five occupied tables proved too much for the wait staff of two. This is not my first time here and in comparison to prior visits, the food was quite unappetitizing and my fellow diners agreed. I ordered the pork loin which had about an inch of raw meat all the way through. I had it exchanged for the ribeye. The steak wasnt bad tasting but it was so thin and flimsy it reminded me of the steaks one got at a buffet line at the casinos. Dessert on the other hand as always was pleasing to the eye and tasted quite good. I recommend the cheese cake or the napolean. Im not quite sure this place is a bargain anymore at $25.95 for the ribeye three course meal.
I really want to like this place.... At $20 for a three course meal, there is no better bargin for honest to goodness french food. I just couldn't find anything I wanted to order. I settled on the lamb what was mustard coated and far too gamey to eb enjoyed. The salad I ordered arrived overdressed. The other diners at my table enjoyed their meal, so their perception would be considerably different. The decor leaves a lot to be desired too. It feels well... uninspired.
